Polk Audio speakers and Sony Receivers

I have recently purchased Polk Audio RM 95 5CH Satellite Speakers and a Polk Audio PSW Series PSW110 subwoofer. I am looking at buying a Sony STRDH810 as Best Buy has it on sale for $299 right now. I was wondering if this match would be ok for the Polk system I already have?

That receiver should be fine for those satellite speakers.

Thanks for the reply... An audio/video guy told me that Sony receivers were not a good match with Polk speakers but I have not been able to find anything to prove that. I'm really wanting the STRDN1010 but don't think I can afford it right now.

Everybody has preferences, but I think you'll be fine. I'm not a Sony AVR fan myself, but 5 sats shouldn't represent a significant load for any name-brand AVR, IMO. As long as it has all the connectivity you need to properly integrate it into your system, it should do the job. Do let us know how it works out!

I'll let you know. I ended up getting the Sony STR-DN1010 because of course they did not have the 810. I still have to get some speaker wire, they did not have 14ga. only 16, so hopefully by the end of the week I will have this set up.

You probably won't tell any difference from 16ga to 14ga honestly.Main Surround -

Polk and Sony work just fine together. I'd honestly hold out for 14g just to keep an eyeball on the future. Are you never going to own a larger speaker? sonically? No, not with standard speaker wire so go ahead and rock out. Just a suggestion.
I also ask depending on how you're going to connect the speakers overall. Are you wiring all the speakers from the subwoofer? If yes, stop now and lets talk a little bit here.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I am going to wait for the 14 ga. wire. I was planning on wiring speakers from the receiver. Is that the way it should be wired? What are the pros and cons?

I'd wire them as you normally would. Pros and cons? Do you mean that in regards to wiring it from the subwoofer?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Yes, I was just wondering because I have never done this before.

Entry level Sony is considered 'bright' by some, that's why you will get recommendations to take another route for your receiver. Yamaha also falls into the group that tends to be reviewed with a 'hard' or 'bright' edge to the sound. Polk tends to employ detailed tweeters with a very airy and open top end - on 'bright' gear, well, it's bright to some.
AGAIN, most will probably recommend Onkyo and Denon for a more warm, natural sound, and throw Harman in the entry level bunch too.
If you aren't finicky, don't worry about it. At the price point, I'd focus on getting what features, and connections you want, all other things equal. If it's the Sony, awesome. If you get home and it doesn't blow your skirt up, Best Buy has a return policy, use it.

I'd wire them as described in the manual from the whomever you choose and use the subwoofer output to connect the....well, subwoofer. The manual covers the connection options for both methods. I'd stick with the single cable solution for the sub. It's not hard, you'll be fine.
Russman has solid suggestions but based on what I've read from you, any receiver will do brand wise.....just ensure, as he stated, that you get all the connections you need including a subwoofer/LFE output.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Thanks for all the help and input everyone! I may still have a question about the speaker placement in the room I am installing all this in. The room has a vaulted ceiling, TV is mounted on the wall that is higher. My main sitting area backs up to back wall against windows. I was going to mount front speakers on wall about 6ft high on each side of TV. Center will sit on top of stacking rack under TV and will be about 3 1/2ft high. These windows are kind of messing me up with the surround placement though. I was going to mount them on each side of this triple window, which would make their placement about a foot wider on each side than the fronts and put them about 4-4 1/2ft high. I was going to angle them in a little. Does this sound OK?
This may be a terrible description of the room, sorry. This room is very open as it ajoins with dining area and Kitchen.
