More than two ears?

Posted this somewhere but I think it deserves its own thread.

I feel sorry for those that say "I will get more than two speakers when I grow more than two ears" when referring to a 5 or 7 speakers Home Theater.

These people cannot distinguish if a sound is coming form in front of them, their side, or their back.

They use their two ears to listen to two speakers, and can just pinpoint what's coming out directly from those speakers.

They do not understand what imaging or soundstage is, because they do not have an infinite number of ears in order to be able to place the sounds anywhere in the room other than the speakers.

They can't listen to the center image in their stereo setup. For this they would need a third ear.

Same goes for the "I don't need a sub for ht" attitude.

Ted. I think it's time. You should stop posting. Or, have a translator do it for you.

lol, Ricardo. Ted has got his own style and sometimes it's a bit like a solving a Rubik's cube composed of words. But he keeps us 'thinking' which can't be a bad thing!

Otherwise. I'm in full agreement with all of your regarding the necessity of multi-channel and a SUB or two, or more for HT.

I think for a lot of people the move to multi-channel is a step into unfamiliar waters so they come up with a lot of rationalization as to why it's not something they want to do. There's a lot more complexity with multi-channel and you have to get your learn on. I still lean towards the pure 2 channel stereo system for music, although when multi-channel music is done well it is enjoyable and a very cool presentation. For HT I don't know why you wouldn't want multi-channel? Not having multi-channel for HT would be like ordering a pizza then scraping all the toppings off before you eat it. For HT IMHO 5.1 channels is the minimum and although a well done movie in full 7.1 increases the enjoyment and multi-channel experience, most times the extra back channels just don't add that much.

Ricardo, I just wanted to let you know that two channel rocks. Hmmm, two ears, two channels. Coincidence?

Why would I want 7 speakers since 2 already sound so bad?

5.1 would be great for HT, but with my budget I would have to drop quaity so much for the extra channels it wouldn't be worth it. I am very pleased with my two channels front stage. Maybe latter I will build some surrounds to match my fronts. A dual purpose 2 channel/HT is the only way I will be able to make it fly in the future.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

That's my quote, but I only say it because I'm insecure, old, and can't afford a full HT.

"I'll go surround after I grow 3.1 more ears."

    BUT,
If/when we end up with a house that will allow me to have a proper 2-channel room, I'll likely setup a dedicated HT in the main family room.

Even F1Nut finally found out HT sounds cool. Does it replace anything dedicated 2ch? Nope and not sure who said it in the first place. Damn them.

I've noticed a bigger difference in larger .1 systems when the room is larger. 7.1 in a small room doesn't make much sense to me.

It really helps out the audio industry if you have both a 2 ch and a multi-channel HT system. Get on board and do your part to help the industry

In lieu of more ears, perhaps we just need better ears...

MD - I've seen ppl with ears like that but they're very nice in person.

In that guys case, would his left ear be the center channel?

I think that's not an ear, its what used to be paleface's lips, 'cause they are missing.
