Thinking of thinning the herd

I'm going to thin the herd in some fashion and am deciding on whether to pass on some SDA 2Bs or LS90s + RT35s. I just can't support or justify both HT and 2 channel rigs. I've done it, torn it down, done it, torn it down. I just don't have to time to split between watching TV and listening to music.
I'll either go back to the SDA HT (leaning that way) giving up the LS//RT fronts and surrounds...or give up the SDAs (choke), the 2Bs first, then a set of mint 1Cs later.

2Bs are in slightly rough shape, cloth is fine, needs a bit of glue on a side, but one of the tops has a scrape and the finish is faded on both. RDO and mortite, no crossover mods. Have IC cable.

LS90s oak veneer 9/10
RT35s black oak veneer 8/10

I'm looking for a local sale, so if any local Polkie has an interest in either set, let me know. These will be good deals. If there is multiple interest I'll post in the For Sale section. Not going to ship, hence the interest check.

Combo rig:

SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B

I know what you mean. I wish I had the room for a dedicated 2 channel setup but I don't.

    Hi Ron,

When you set up/tear down is it in the same spot with the TV in the middle?

The reason I ask is that I don't think you lose that much in HT mode when you use the SDA's for double-duty as 2-channel and HT speakers.

I guess only you can decide if you like the best fidelity in 2-channel or HT mode.

Hey Ron good to see you on here, I've appreciated your input on AVSforum and am finally getting my feet wet over here. Hate to see you paring down some of your collection but understand at times its necesary. Wish I was closer and would consider the 2B's but I don't know how much different they would be from the M10's I already have.

M10's are wonderful, and properly modded 2B's perhaps an order of magnitude better.

Damn you for living in CA....LS90's are top of my list of speakers I want to get my ears on for a bit......and now that I have the Carver I could properly give them some good power...

but I want some 4ohm gear to pull more power out of the Carver so I guess its better for my pockets your so far away lol....

I've been using the 90s/35s in the HT and 1Cs in the up again, down again 2 channel rig. No TV there, it's in a separate room. The SDAs, when in the HT, were wonderful. So are the 90s. It's just that the HT rig was not optimal and never will be for SDAs, not that it wasn't phenomemal.

So, if I'm not going to use the SDAs, then I might as well get rid of them...or...vice versa. LS90s don't hit like SDAs, but are extremely clean and musical. I can live with either one, but as I said, I'm leaning toward passing on the 90s/35s to another Polkie and going back to my all SDA rig.

Someone local should speak up and make my mind up for me.

I would love to get a nice pair of LS90 to mate with my LS70's in my HT. Oh for the days of Star Trek where we could just beam items across the country.

Ron, thought of throwing this on AVSFORUM in the Polkies thread?

No, if I get rid of the 90s they should go to someone here. I can't find a flaw in them, so they need to go to one who will appreciate them. If I had boxes, I'd consider shipping, but again, they're mint or nearly so, there's no reason to risk damage. It's not a case where I need the money either.

Sooner or later a nice pair of LS90's are going to show up around Oklahoma and I am going to snap them up. I've had my 70's since the early 90's and love them. I just want to fill out my HT with all LS series speakers.

I'm sure someone around there will snap them up.

Totally understand, this forum is a bit more dedicated than the Polk thread on AVSFORUM, though you could always put a post count requirement or something on it....

Wish I lived out either West or East Coast as I see deals on vintage polks that I am interested in often (also in CO), not much for the midwest......

    Hey Ron,

Good to see you around. I would love to grab those 90's but alas, I'm 2/3 the way across country.

I can't speak highly enough of the 90's. They don't require "horsepower" to drive and if you put good stuff in front of them, they really sing.

They are certainly very good. I prefer the RDO tweeters in the 1Cs to the trilams and they don't slam like SDAs, but they are very clean. My wife would like me to get rid of the SDAs and keep them. Just not ready to do that. Hell, she'd prefer I get rid of everything and go with Blackstones .

    No worries.

Just figured with the condition of the 2B's they'd be cheaper, that and I think I'd want some SDA's again before anything else (except Monitor 7's/10's).

Ok, talked to Freddy who might want the 2Bs, but...I put them back in the rig as surrounds and am really leaning toward bring the 1Cs back in as fronts. That means the LS90s and 35s have to go. I'll post a FS thread shortly. Hopefully, someone local will want them...they are really nice and I got them for a steal. I won't ask for more...(hint)...$300 for both pairs.
