My apologies. I did not intend to leave the decimal point out on the distortion figure. It is stated at .1% and not at 1% as I noted. I was going to post some info on the older Adcom's, but the website is under construction. Also I noticed a few changes at EMO. The bottom line is for the money you can do better buying a used amp from another manufacture. Especially after they raised their prices.

You need to reread the Emotiva specs so as to not misinform others.

If you dislike the product fine, but don't say thiings about it or its specifications that are simply untrue.

There is nothing being misinformed,Emotiva is OK for HT,remember I still run the XPA-3 and I'm fine with it.. but when it comes to music it fails in clarity, depth, and seperation. if you just want something so you can crank it up then fine Emotiva works great. But I'm in this for something more then just my system being loud.

For the average Joe Emotiva will be just fine, not everyone wants to go deep into this hobby and chase the Audio Nirvana. I am by no means saying Emotiva Sucks,it has it's place and Like I said most people want to power their HT set up with a little juice and thats where I think Emotiva shines.. Like I said I got to see and hear a full Emotiva system at the audio show and I was far from WOW'ed.

Again I don't think most people that chime in looking for power for there system are in this for a hobby they just want something to juice up what they have, and maybe thats where some of us fail when one chimes in wanting a amp for there system, maybe some of us have moved so far along we forget where we started I know I have, but I still have my Opinon when I like or dislike something as well as everyone else...

Maybe the synergy of amp, cables, and speakers just wasn't right for you. Who knows.

I will agree with you about the synergy, but then why did Emotiva Fail at the audio show with all Emotiva equipment????

It's because all of us are looking for something different, something that fit's us and our own budget.. we all have a different budget it's what you find that will make you happy and if you want to upgrade and you can do so. I say get your ears on as much gear as you can if you really want this as a hobby,if not a good receiver and a Emotiva amp will make the average person smile from ear to ear..

    Cables:tongue:

On a serious note I choose to recommend gear that I have heard and liked. There are a lot of fan boys out there with little experience giving opinions on what people should spend their money on. People that give recommendations on specs... I had listened to some fan boys in the past and regretted purchases I made based on these recommendations. I see people chime in with their opinions about gear they never heard based on what others have said. I am sure there are people that are happy with EMO that have heard other equipment. If you had $10,000 to buy a car would you buy the cheapest car made new(OP was asking about used I know...), or would you shop for a used car with that same money? You can get a much better used car with 10g's than a new car with 10g's. That is my whole point.

Not sure If I would be considered a true audiophile but Ive been buying and selling speakers and avr's forever but never dipping into the pricey stuff. 3 years ago I decided to setup to the RTis and those are the best Ive ever heard. Not sure if its top of the line but love the sound. I never thought I was getting the best out of them so now I decided to get an amp after a successful fantasy football season. ;D
So this will be my first dip into the amp pool and the emo seems like a good amp and at right price. Whether I'll notice a difference or not, I guess we'll have to wait until I find one.

An EMO is definitely better than running just an AVR. You do have Pre outs correct?

Then you will be very happy but why not just get a new one since a used one sells for almost the same price.. One thing about Emo right now is the resale of them is really good..

Also if you buy new you can return it for a refund if you find it fatiguing to your ears. I know there is a wait, but have patience young grasshopper.

Maybe time for a different thread? If they were powering their line up of speakers, well lets say their speakers aren't the end all be all.

Now stick something like their XPA-2 or even the 3 on a pair of PSB Synchrony 1's and then we'll have something to discuss.

Maybe it's my ears only, but my 2-channel Polk Audio Lsi15 bedroom set is being driven by an Emotiva XPA-2 (Pangea AC9 power cable, Outlaw PCA ICs, KK 4tc speaker cables), and I've enjoyed its musical ability very much. My Denon AVR-4810ci receiver and Oppo BDP-93 SACD/DVD-Audio/Bluray player are no slouch for music.
To whoever complains about the Emo XPA-2, maybe, just maybe, your speakers don't blend well with it. Mine did.

I agree, I thoroughly enjoy the XPA-2 or pair of UPA-1's with my LSi25's.
Yeah I have the Adcom 5802 too. It is a very nice amp but for me it doesn't outshine the Emotiva amps as some on here might suggest.

Mind you that is with my ears, listening to my speakers in my rooms. Individual results may vary.

If you ever decide to part with your adcom 5802 give me first dibs. Seriously.

I've had a bunch of Emo amps the last few years (UPA-1's, UPA-2, XPA-2, XPA-3, XPA-5, RPA-2) they all had their strengths and weaknesses. In my room, with my gear, I felt like the RPA-2 (and its cool meters) was the best for music, with the UPA-1's close behind. I thought my XPA-2/3 combo for HT was great! That being said, I'll take my current Cinenova Grande 5 amp over any of them. But then again with an MSRP of almost 4k there's a pretty significant difference in price.

^^^ The RPA-2 was the emo amp that first drew my attention a couple of years ago. I wanted one, but ended up settling for an XPA-2 when the RPA went OOP. I'm curious if I would still have it, considering that I eventually moved the XPAs in and out of my system.

I think if I spent more time doing some critical listening I would have kept the RPA-2. But being more of a HT buff I decided to sell it to a friend with a 2ch setup. He still has it and says thats the one piece of gear he will never sell.

He's probably got some really fine sounding cable risers. I heard that they really image well and make for a large soundstage, while also providing for a blacker background. But I'm just an average Joe who happens to like Polk loudspeakers.
