Speaker recommendation for a HT Newbie

Unfortunately I know very little about home theater setup but would like to upgrade my current system. I currently have a Pioneer 1020k receiver, a Polk CS1 center channel speaker, 4 RC 60i ceiling mounted speakers, and a Premier Accoustics PA-120 sub. As you can probably tell, I've just been buying some random pieces with no clue about how they all match up. Anyway, I'm hoping to add some floor standing speakers for the fronts to improve over the RC60is. I'm looking at the monitor line but I'm not sure what to get. I've read that the Monitor 70s may be too much for my receiver since I don't have the capability to add an amp. What would be the best choice considering a limited budget and my current receiver? At some point I would like to replace the rear speakers with floor standing speakers too since I don't seem to get much effect from my in ceiling speakers. My room size is 14 X 16. Thanks in advance for your advice!!

I started off with the monitor 60's and loved them. I think they'd be easily driven by the 1020, and later on you could move them to surrounds and upgrade to the 70's if you feel the need to. Great speaker for the price.

It looks like newegg has good prices on the Monitor 70 series II right now. They're out of the Monitor 60 series II til February and they have them listed as the same price as the 70s. Should I get the 70s now while they're on sale or should I wait for the 60s and hope they lower the price?

I would, I wasn't trying to steer you away from the 70's, they're great speakers. The 1020 will power them but to hear them at their true potential you'll need better amplification. Great speaker for the money though, they'll be a huge improvement.

    WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!!

M-70s are the best of that series but M-60s will do with a good sub for HT. Keep your eye on newegg because 60s have been discounted as low as just over 200 a pair with free shipping if you're on a budget!

You have to be PATIENT and wait for it!!

Absolutely right!! I saved $650 on an RTi setup. They day after I bought them the price went back up and the entire set I bought was now only $150 off.

I directed my sister to their Onkyo 608 deal which is still over $220 off. Newegg gets awesome deals and is an authorized dealer which is the only way to go!

With being patient and watching for deals, I saved $1500 on my entire setup.

Definitely worth the wait if you wanna save.

Welcome to Club Polk PepperBrooks

You might as well get those 70s while they are on sale. As pointed out, your receiver is lacking to provide the 70s to their max potential but again the improvement will definitely be huge. Keep an eye open for the 60s as you can then add them later on as surround if you so wish.

Thank you all for your help. I've think I've decided to order a pair of the 50's for now and temporarily use those as a my fronts while I watch for a better deal on a pair of 60's or 70's. Whenever I find a good deal on the the 60's or 70's I'll move the 50's to the rear.

Thanks again to everyone for your help/advice!!
