FXiA4 or FXiA6

How good would the FXiA4's sound as replacements for the RTi4's for surround duty. My front 3 are RTi10's and CSiA6 and they will be powered by an SC-35 Receiver which is now on the way. Or would it be better to get the FXiA6's for the 6.5 inch drivers to match the front 3....or even the RTi6's. Would the FX speakers make a noticable difference or just stick with the RTi4's ( I have 4 of these so I could go 7.1 ) The FXiA4's are on sale this week at Futureshop for $299 + Free Shipping.

    Depends.

What is your HT room setup like?

Lots of seating across a wide area? FXis may do a better job of dispersing the surround effects.

A single comfy sweet spot for one or two people? Direct radiating speakers, like the RTi4 do a good job.

If you listen to multichannel music (like many DVD/BD concerts), maybe you prefer having localized accurate positioning of sound coming from your surrounds - back to the RTi4.

Maybe you like a less precise and spread sound for multichannel music - then back to the FXis.

I don't think there is a 'one size fits all' for what type of surrounds to use...depends....

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

I've got a pretty wide room and have tried both, I much prefer the Fxi's. I'm mainly movies and video games so it depends on your needs.

I just ordered a pair of FXi4's to replace the OWM3's I currently use for my rear speakers. Hopefully they will be a large improvement.

The OWM3's have faired quite nicely, but this should be an improvement.

I too am wondering about purchasing FXi6's or RTi A3's for my side surrounds in a 7.1 setup.

Why I'm wondering is because my listening area is about 15 feet wide x 20-25 feet long. However, the whole room is probably around 40 feet long.

I am wondering if the sound of the FXi's would be 'lost' in the length of the room and should therefore go with a more direct speaker?

It would be mainly used for movies but do enjoy the odd concert dvd.

Is the 299 a good price for these speakers. Im looking around and it seems to be pretty reasonable, thinking about buying these myself

I thing $299 is a great price for these speakers. Our 'Futureshop' (Canadian version of Best Buy) is selling the A4's for $299. They don't have the A6's in stock but 'Gibby's' (another Canadian store) have the A6's on sale at $478.

Geez if they're for $299 somewhere that might make my decision. Even if it's in the U.S. I have to pay duty, it would still be less than buying them up here.

$299 is a very good price for New FXiA4's from Futureshop in Canada. I saw used ones listed for $300 and you don't get the 5 Yr Warranty with Used.

Right on. I would be interested in how they sound. Where do you plan on mounting them (side/rear)? Let us know if you get a chance.

    Happy Listening.

I have my couch setup along a back wall and will be mounting them along that back wall about ear level (maybe a few inches above) at either end of the couch. I will post a picture or two when I get them. I think they will be much better suited then what I currently have.

Nice price for the FXi A4's. I've had a set for over a year and they are very nice for surround speakers. They really fill the rear stage without being overbearing.
