two channels to the same speaker?
Question, My brother in law was telling me that in he like myself have a 7.1 system and only used it in 5.1, But what he done was wire his back channels into the lower posts on his monitor 70 and surrond channels to top posts changed the set up back to 7.1 and loves the sound effects. My question is would you lose of the movies details because there is two seperate channels coming from the same speaker/area?

Terrible idea, and will absolutely destroy imaging.
Rear channel audio is meant to radiate from the rears, not the fronts! Plus the lower posts in the monitor 70's are crossed to play low frequencies only...and given that there is very little low frequency material in the surround channels anyway, I don't see what he's really gaining...just some misplaced harmonics ruining the whole soundstage.
A proper 5.1 is the right way to go.My System Showcase!

Thanks for confirming what I though, Just to clairfy as I make a mistake in explaining his set up the left and right channels are on lower posts and the surround is on the upper posts.

I think what he's doing is trying to bi-amp of the receiver's back channels. Plenty of threads on this already.HT SYSTEM-

lol that's even worse. It means he's getting surround material firing out of the front tweets and mids, and only the bass frequencies from the true front channels playing through the M70's woofers.
i/e objects that on the screen are coming from the rear of a scene, will sound like they're coming from the front! My System Showcase!
