Subwoofer for my brother...
My brother is looking for a subwoofer. I directed him towards the PSW 505 as it seems like it has been a good 'bang for your buck' sub.
I'm just looking for some other opinions.
He has my old surround sound equipment: (If I remember the correct models)
NHT Super Two's
NHT Super Center (Pretty sure this was the model)
NHT HDP1's (bi or dipoled surrounds)
HK 3xx receiver (about 6-7 years old)
He's looking to add a little more bass. It is used for movies and some gaming. Very little music at all.
He is looking to spend around $300, but would spend a little more if he could move up substantially (used market, etc.)

BIC America F12 is considered to be a good budget sub - its $183.27 on amazon. It's not gonna sound like your ultra, but I bet it performs pretty well, possible better than the polk. To be honest I have never heard one in person, I've just read reviews around the web.

And although I have never heard this one either, the Cadence csx-12 looks like another solid performing budget sub

Go with the PSW505. It'd be the general consensus for a good budget sub.Main Surround -
Epson 8350 Projector/ Elite Screens 120" / Pioneer Elite SC-35 / Sunfire Signature / Focal Chorus 716s / Focal Chorus CC / Polk MC80 / Polk PSW150 sub
Bedroom - Sharp Aquos 70" 650 / Pioneer SC-1222k / Polk RT-55 / Polk CS-250
Den - Rotel RSP-1068 / Threshold CAS-2 / Boston VR-M60 / BDP-05FD -
Up to about 200+ the PSW505 is a real bargain, I agree.
But if you're willing to look at the used market or up you budget a bit from 300...then there are more options.
Even the NEW market has some good lower price options.
Lets say something like this for 350.

Or one of these for 499?

And there are others.

I'll have to see what exactly he wants to spend. He is definently looking for the most bang for his buck.
I think I bought my PC12 Ultra for 300 or 350 on the used market. I'm sure he'd jump on anything like that if we could find one...AVR: Pioneer Elite SC-67
