A couple of years ago a neighbor had sale went to look what he had.I saw a pair of speakers asked what he wanted for them he said 20 bucks.I asked if i could take them home and hook them up to see how they sounded. They didn't sound bad but the tweeter wasn't working on one. I go back over and told him they weren't working properly. He tells me o.k. give me 7 dollars.I tell him o.k. deal.Got back home started foolin with them.I looked on the back they said polk audio 7b .I came here to see what I had. started to read threads about them.Replaced a fuse and presto beautiful sounds came out .They have been in my shop ever scene.I love a good deal!!

Nice score! But why $7? Why not $5 or $10? My wife says I analyze things too much, not sure what she means.

My want for a pair of vintage Polk's. And Ken (polkersince85) giving me a pair of Monitor 10's for $20. I tried to pay him $23 but he wouldn't have none of it.

Seven for Seven, it almost sounds like a short story! Great score.

I've never heard the 7s but I do have a set of 5s with the peerless highs and I can only imagine the extended low end provided by the larger brothers.

    Enjoy!

Do the7bs have peerless tweeters? And if so what is the difference between them and other style?

I don't think 7bs have the peerless in them but I'd wait for someone who is more familiar with them. In general later model speakers have the SL tweeters and not the peerless. The peerless tweeter appears as a black fabric dome with a tiny dimple in the center. SL have a clear plastic-like coating. It's easy to identify visually.

My 7B's have the peerless tweeter in them.

Oldfat, be sure you have the proper fuse in them. It should be a 1 amp fast blow.

I have in 1amp fast acting fuses from radio shack are they the same?Do the more expensive fuses make a difference? To my ears these are beautiful sounding speakers. I'm always looking for vintage polks .I'm trying to set up a nice system for the house monitor 40s and70sII Yamaha receiver should have all of it by the weekend.Ill let you know how it works out.

You have the correct fuses. I just wanted to be sure you were protecting those tweeters properly.

Soft black rubber dome with a small pinhole in the center? If yes, you have Peerless... and the pinhole was Polk's tweek to a stock tweeter...

Gotta dig up my references to be sure, but I think the 7b's changed the PR and the tweeter (to the SL1000).

You'll find though that many early Polk changeovers were not clean, i.e., parts from the earlier line was used up in the subsequent version. So Peerless in a 7b would not be unusual, even if the SL1000 was part of the 7b's package.

EDIT:... and IMO opinion anyone modding an early Mon 7 should be exhiled from CP...
