Subwoofer tempation!!

Hey gang,

I dropped by CC yesterday to kill some time and admit I was tempted by what I saw on open-box sale. They had an Infinity Entra SubTwo for $249. It was tempting because I still have the trade up value on my PSW-350 of over $200. My mind was going....$49 for a monstrous 12 inch...

What are you guys takes on this? Was it worth resisting (I'd love to find a deal on a PSW-450 and use it WITH my 350 until I can afford an SVS or Velodyne HGS). I do live in an apartment right now anyway. I'm quite impressed with my 350, but man, that thing is a temptation.

Just curious what you guys would do in this situation.

(it was fairly good condition...floor model with a few finger indentions on the cone [very minor] and one or two pea sized nicks on the corners.)

I say save the $49 + tax, and hold out for what you *really* want.

    I'm in Duluth/Norcross and have both a 450 and SVS PC+ 20-39.

I'd let you do a side-by-side comparison if you want.

Thanks for the offer Jbowl, I may have to take it up one day. I'm only interested in the 450 because I have a chance to buy one for $200 if I decide I want it. But either way, it'll be a while before I buy a new sub. SACD/DVD-A player is coming first. :)

How do you think they compare, jbowl? How about a one paragraph comparo write-up?

I'll spend some time with the 450 this weekend and spit out some subjective thoughts later.

I don't have a dedicated HT room with perfect dimensions, building materials, etc...I think my room is my weak point. The SVS is brutal in my living room with certain sources. I think this is something people should consider before moving toward the SVS's. Sort of like having speakers that totally outclass your amps and source and dimenish your enjoyment.

I'd love to see waterfall charts for the DSOTM SACD.
Why don't people suggest this SACD as BASS reference material? It scares me. Maybe the resonance is just unique for my room. The heartbeat in the first tracks litterally makes my ceiling creak and moan like the SVS is causing structural damage. It sounds like someones playing whack-a-molee on the 2nd floor with a 200lb sledge. BOOM BOOM BOOM And that's running 6db cold! That whole disc is nuts with bass.

I never had these 'problems' with the 450

    I love DSOTM on SACD!

In my room, the bass is strong, but not overpowering on that passage - just right. And I'm running the PB2+ about 1 dB hot for music vice 4-5 dB hot for HT.

You might be resonating the floor - is it wooden over an open space below? If so, try a REALLY thick and heavy piece of slate or paver under the sub to decouple it from the floor.

Don't hurt yourself or others or cause property damage moving it, but I'm talking maybe two stacked 2" thick pieces for a total weight of 100+ pounds. The reactive forces of the Plus driver are extremely strong and I've seen it turn cheapo floors into literal trampolines - Boom Central - ughh.
