Hello,
The dial on the Polk controls the upper frequency that the sub is going to produce. The goal is to have the sub play up to the lowest frequency that the main left and right speakers can produce. So, if possible check the specifications of the main speakers and determine their low frequency capability. For example, let's say your main speakers begin rolling off their bass response at 80Hz. This would give you a beginning sub setting of 80Hz, but lots of things can effect the blending between the sub and the speakers. Try listening to a recording that has well-recorded bass information and see how the 80Hz setting sounds. Then try raising the sub setting to 100Hz and listen to the same passage. If it seems as though the sound is a little "chesty" or "boxy" sounding go back to the 80Hz position. You can experiment with reducing the setting to 60Hz and see how that changes the sound.
Don't worry if it takes a few times to begin hearing how crossover changes effect the sound.

Hey Clyde, nice to renew your acquaintance! I hope the sub information was helpful, getting a sub-woofer to smoothly blend with main speakers is probably one of the more difficult things to do in audio. I've been going through it since I moved everything into a new, smaller room. A sound pressure level meter can be helpful, the Radio Shack analogue meter can be modified to be accurate to around 5Hz. That was helpful for me.
Take care, Ken
