I wish I would have picked up the 808 from NewEgg a few days ago when it was $649 then. All my bouncing around and I think I am going with that. This is a HT setup that will also play audio, the 808 should fit right in. Still $699 new from NewEgg is not a bad deal.

Love me some Onkyos for HT. The only thing I'd consider moving up to might be a Pioneer SC ICE amp. Other than that the Onkyos have got this HT thing down. Power, features, cost, build, and--most importantly PRICE!!
HKs are nice sounding but the feature set is reduced and they're less user friendly.
But I'd check 'everything' out. I've owned Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo, HK and been happy with each one and still am with my Onkyo and my OLDER Denon?
Denons in the xxx7 and older series were much better build quality than is currently out there. IMHO.

I bought a denon AVR -4800 from a member that I've never hooked up to date. Is this a good "older Denon" model in your opinion? I procrastinate on things that are new and unfamiliar..... like multichannel HT audio !:biggrin: -
Don't know that specific model but it should be built like a Japanese tank. Because that should be fairly old. Of course here what we're talking about is the pre and amp section and not so much the surround processing because those features will be a little dated on that model--I would suspect.
I'll have to look that one up for more info. But it certainly is old enough.

I don't really mind if the processor/surround abilities aren't the latest......because I'm not either!

Oh Snap!
Funny that you went there!
Not to high-jack the thread , and this is slightly off topic, but I can't say I've completely ruled out Emotiva's XPA5.
My only amp experience thus far has been an Adcom GFA-555. I haven't taken the time to put it on my LSi15s and side-by-side it against my HK AVR525 since its gone down with technical issues and needs to be repaired. But I was happy with it and will repair it (assuming repairs are $150 or less).
Crutchfield has Marantz and NAD. Either not my cup of tea or too expensive.
JR and BHPhoto has only receivers and pro-audio amps.
I'm leaning towards Parasound, which you can buy new or rerurbed online.Do you hear that buzzing noise?
