Security Cameras / DVR / VCR

A good friend of the family has a lake house, and he asked me to start pricing an outdoor/indoor security rig.

Anyone have any thoughts / experience / brand preference? I'd like to have at least color video, probably 6 cameras (2in 4out), motion detecting turn-on, wireless video transmission, even infra-red or night vision modes.

Budget has yet to be discussed, client does not wish to run a lot of wire, so wireless video xmission is a must.

Cheers,
Russ

Sounds X10'ish? I just bought a motion detector/ wireless transceiver/ light switch for the 'beer room' from them, but haven't hooked it up yet. They have quite a few camera packages. I'd be curious what other people's experiences have been. This motion detector is my test of their products, as I'd like to expand on it.

Parts Express has some nice packages, as well as ala carte. Broad price spectrum.

I looked into it for an extended-family member who had a restaurant... he was getting ripped off by some employees not ringing up sales and then pocketing the cash. Unfortunately, the realities of a small town plus the stealing forced him to close before we even discussed what I found.

I'd like to ask a question kinda off topic....

How come in stores the security cameras are always so ****? I mean....watch cops and you see some stooge robbing a jewlery store and the video quality is so ****. Why in the age of such suberb digital video cameras are we using those **** analog (?) video cameras?

Based on my little bit of research, I'd have to say price is a big factor. Have to balance that, I guess, with what an owner believes is the realistic probability that he'll actually get robbed.

Well remember that guy that was abducting kids a few weeks ago at some of those big chain stores? The cameras were horrible looking. Why not get a regular video camera and set it to record?
