Any experience/opinions on Spica TC-50's?

I recently bought a used pair of Spica TC-50 "cheese wedge" speakers".

Always read good thing about them.

Really like what I hear so far.

I did need to replace both original tweeters (one was bad) with (now) available replacements from Madisound.

Running on stands with a small Cayin 30 wpc tube integrated with a HSU STF-2 subwoofer to help the bottom end.

One reviewer called these "the best speaker for the money ever", not sure if I would go that far.

Has anyone else ever owned, or heard these before?

Thanks!

    Hello,
I've owned the TC-50 speakers for well over 20 years and love them. Put them on good stands and they'll only be limited with what's connected to them. Way back when, I mounted two small "L" brackets on the back of the cabinets and added Decca ribbon tweeters as "super-tweeters". Recently I've been using a classic Fisher 500C with them, but in days past I've used a CJ MV75a with fine results. A nice ARC D51FB, or ARC D100, or Amber Series 70, or Quad 303 would be nice to find with them.
I hope you enjoy them very much.
    Cheers, Ken

My uncle had a pair of those speakers back in the day. He also had a Spica sub. I remember them siting on stands beside his Marantz HD88's.

    Hey Tonyb,
Here's a shot I took today, sorry about the dusty glass. I had a problem, a few years ago, with the selenium rectifier and found a pretty cool kit that replaced it and all the power supply filter caps. It was a nice kit with PCB and parts. I had to repair the off/on volume control, the off/on part wasn't working. Once I took it apart and put it back together it seems to be fine.
I keep an eye out for a wood cabinet, but haven't found one when I have the money to buy it.
    Enjoy, Ken

The Spica's were interesting little speakers. The unique crossover and slanted baffle made them a true minimum phase design which is a rarity. The TC60 was even better with it's Vifa drivers vs the Audax units used in the TC50's IIRC.
