hello, the trouble i am having is when i listen with the volume knob at 11 or 12 the speakers sound great for awhile, then the sound will drop off sounding muffled,i will then shut down the system for 2 to 3 min and then power it back up and it is ok at lower volume,is it the speakers or the power amp, it is an adcom 555II with nad c162 pre, something is tripping and then resetting i am guessing but dont know what it is,also the SRS have the upgraded RDO-194 twetters if that makes any difference,am i doing any damage to the system, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much.neighbor

I'm sure leroyjr will take care of you, but it sounds like your crossover polyswitches are kicking in. They may be getting weak and need to be replaced, or, you're just playing the speakers too loud...ask me how I know.

I agree the polyswitches sound like they have bit the big one. The Adcom 555II shouldn't be overpowering SDA SRS's though. Unless he is getting clipping.

Polyswitches can get weak over time and trip very easily. Had an issue with my speakers and replaced them. Got them from Polk years ago.

Have you tried the speakers with another amp? Just to cover all the bases.

I have the same setup (Adcom 555 II powering a set of SDA-SRS's). I tripped the polyswitches a couple times too, but that was at INSANE  levels when I was first seeing what the Adcom could do with the SRS's. I felt somewhat comfortable doing it because I knew about the polyswitches, but I admit it's still probably not the wisest of ideas...

Since then I have been more moderate on the volume dial. Using a decibel meter, I have verified that I can "comfortably" play them in the high 90's decibel range, with peaks to 105 db, with seemingly no risk of tripping the polyswitches. That measurement was taken at about 10 feet away from the speakers.

Have you tried a db meter to measure where they are tripping? If you are tripping at lower levels than that, it sounds like your polyswitches are shot.

My problem is, the louder they are, the better the speakers sound to me (probably because the passive radiators seem more active at louder levels), but I don't play them that loud, that often, for my ears sake.

I was having the same problem. My polyswitches were kicking in waaaay to soon. I just removed the polyswitches with a 18 gauge jumper wire. Problem solved.
