I just bought the Blackstone TL150 speaker system and I'm also using a PSW10 sub. I am now looking for a good receiver to run them. Trying to stay under $400. I am currently using a Yamaha HTR-5730 from a packaged system. It is ok but is old and doesn't decode any of the hd audio. Currently have a Sony Blu-ray player a Dish network HD DVR and a LG 47" 1080p lcd tv. My room size is 16x18. Any advice would be appreciated!

I currently have an Onkyo 607 in the flea market. I've been using it for about a year, have all lit, set up mic, and remote for it. Recently upgraded my avr, has no issues at all, PM me if you have any questions. Would power your speakers great, but does not have pre outs.

I did look at accessories4less.com. Has anyone purchased anything from them to know how they are to deal with? I was kinda thinking about the onkyo 707 but was a little worried about refurbished. Has anybody had any trouble with refurbished receivers?

Generally refurbs are a good bet. I'd take a refurb over a used any day - at least a refurb you know someone has been through it. Buying used, you never know what someone is trying to dump on you (unless its from a reputable source)
    65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)
    Pioneer Elite SC-37
    Polk Monitor 70's (2)
    Polk Monitor 40's (4)
    Polk Monitor CS2
    Polk DSW Pro 660wi
    Oppo BDP-93
    Squeezebox Duet
    Belkin PureAV PF60

Agreed Glowrdr. I switched from my Onkyo to a Pioneer Elite, I've only had the Pio for about 24 hours, but just from first impressions, I think the Onkyo may be a little more user friendly, but just a first impression. I wish you luck with whatever decision you make, refurbs should always be in good working order, as someone should have been through the unit.

Thanks for the info! I think I will look at the refurbs a little more. I found a site that has yamaha factory refurbs. Is one better than the other as far as Onkyo and Yamaha? Does one have a better powersupply or more user friendly than the other. I think I am looking at the Yamaha rx-v567 or the Onkyo 707. Which brand has the better auto setup?

    WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!

As far as ease of use. Onkyo has been working on that forever and I think they are pretty straight forward compared to some other brands.

OF those two receivers, the Onkyo has more power. But a higher model Yamaha would match up better with the 707 Onkyo.

The two AVRs have quite a different tonal quality to them so you need to listen to both with the speakers you intend to use because there are interactive effects. Some speakers that are brighter on a Yamaha are less so on the Onkyo, but some speakers that are dull on an Onkyo light up on a Yamaha, etc.

Usually, gross weight is a sign of a units transformer, capacitors and other build factors that affect its ability to put out dynamic power in watts. A Yamaha closer in weight to the Onkyo would match up better with it power-wise. The 567 is less than 19 lbs. the Onkyo is 27.8 lbs. That's a REAL difference!

The Yamaha RX-V867 would be a better match to the Onkyo 707? Both of these units would also have pre-outs for the addition of even more powerful external amp/s. The 567 does not have that feature and that is a feature that helps with the resale value of the unit and future upgrades.

    Good Luck.

I purchased a TX-NR807 from accessories4less.com and it came in almost perfect order. Cost me $470 shipped to my door, so not bad at all, considering retail was 1100..

I bought a refurb Onkyo 606 from accessories4less a couple years ago. The transaction was smooth as could be, and the price was excellent. The shipping was very fast too, as I recall. I highly recommend doing business with them.

I second the Onkyo 707 suggestion...the 807 if you could swing a little extra cash.

Why doesn't anyone suggest the Marantz line of receivers? These seem like better deals than the Onkyo to me.
    Pioneer vsx-1120k, B&K Sonata series video-5 amplifier, Polk Rti8, Fxi3, Csi5, and HSU VTF-1
