psw505 overkill?

Hey Guys,

This is my first home theater setup, so hopefully I am doing this right. Anyways, I purchased 2 monitor 50s, 2 monitor 30s and cs1 (it's a really small room). I am running off a pioneer 1020. Before I read the polk audio site, I purchased a psw505, and now people are telling me that that's a bad idea because my speaker setup isn't as powerful to match the sub. Is this true? Have I made a bad decision with choosing that sub?

    Welcome to the club!

To answer your question, no. If you hang out here any time at all you will realize we don't know what overkill means ;-). While not the most powerful that sub should be able to pressurize a small room. Use the automatic setup the Pioneer has and it will be fine. After that you can tweak if you feel the need or upgrade if you want. The main thing is to spend time listening and enjoying your new system.

yea, I've been reading some of the posts, and it's crazy some of the setups. Hope I'll enjoy my setup because I'm still waiting for my speakers to come in. Initially I bought the polk 6750, but my friend said that the monitors would be MUCH better. Hopefully he's right. Thanks for the response!

Where TOO POWERFUL is a phrase one rarely sees! As stated above. That set up is FINE!

Welcome to Club Polk! My friend has the exact setup except that he has a custom 12in sub I built him instead of the 505. It puts out a ton of sound but definitely doesn't overpower the other speakers, sounds great! So you should be fine as long as everything is setup correctly. Also you can always adjust the gain on the sub as needed. Enjoy!

I just bought this sub psw505,brand new. I felt like the Dsw 8" sub was too small for my needs.. 505 isn't hooked up yet... I have the Polk 1.2s' SDA.Hope it sounds ok with these Polks. My Listening room is small to mid size,as well. any advice?
