XLR European to XLR American

Hello:
It's been several months since I have been on the forum. I guess having a new baby means HT/Audio had to take a back seat!!!
I am about to pull the trigger on the Marantz AV7005 Pre/Pro. I downloaded the owners manual and had a question.
The XLR orientation on the Marantz is European (1 Ground, 2 Hot, 3 Cold). The XLR orientation on my Sunfire amp is American (1 Ground, 2 Cold, 3 Hot).
According to the Marantz manual, it states:
QUOTE
When connecting a device that utilizes USA type of PIN arrangement, replace the 2 and 3 plugs on one side of the balanced cable.
UNQUOTE
Having no experience with balanced cables, is this as simple as taking off the end of the cable and switching the pins or is it more work than this.
Thanks in advance!

You would have to switch the wires on the plug and solder them back on to match your equipment. It's easy enough if you have soldering experience.
Congrats on the sweet Marantz! -
Thanks. I was afraid that would be what I would have to do!

I don't have any yet. When I finally buy the Marantz, I will most likely purchase Signal Analog 2 Balanced Interconnects.

I'd have Frank make you modified cables instead."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Sorry, I've been away for a long time. Who is Frank?
Out of curiosity, hypothetically, what would happen if I connected with no modification to the cable? Also, and I suppose this is just frustration on my part, but why aren't XLR plugs uniform? -
Frank is the owner of Signal Cables."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
