I wanted to comment that I bought the router buddy and have owned the Jasper jig before as well...
Hands down -- the Router buddy is built better - far more durable. I had rebuy a Jasper jig after the thin plastic they use cracked. The router buddy is waayyyyy more durable

I'm on my second Jasper jig as well, but the first one did last a couple years."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

I always wanted one ended up building a new router base that has 5/16" coupler nuts welded on with that I can atach any length all thread rod to a center pivot , I found I can recess or cut anything over 8" .
Anything smaller I make a template out of 1/8" masonite and use a 1/4" tracing bit I think its like the ones for formica . -
Thanks for bringing this back up.
I find it easier to get an exact cut with the Jasper, but the Router Buddy is built better, so pick your poison."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
how small a circle will those do ??
I end up building a masonite drop in trace pattern for anything under 5" there has gotta be a better way ?? -
The Router Buddy will do small circles--I think I've gone as small as 2". Any less & it's just sensible to use a hole saw.
As to getting an accurate size: I use a vernier caliper to set-up the RB. No problem getting the size right (at least as close as you can when cutting wood.)

I have had a jasper jig for 5+ years now. Been trouble free and I have done quite a bit of work with it.

I use my router to flush the drivers to the surface than I use a hand held jigsaw to get the actuall hole in the wood .
But it does sound like a router buddy is my next purchase
