I have doing some research on these amps and both look similar in performance. Does anyone have any real world experience on both? I want an amp to push my LSi15s. Thanks!!

    555 is better.

The 5xxx series aren't as clean sounding as the 5xx series. The older ones sound smoother IMHO. I had an Adcom 5400 and an Adcom 545. The 545 sounds much better.

I was thinking about picking up a couple more Adcoms to experiment with bi-amping on my mains. How does the GFA-555's sound compared to the GFA-555II? What changed? Also, is the GFA-555MKII the same as GFA-555II? If so, I have seen it listed both ways for some reason?

I have to disagree with this post based on my own limited experience with two Adcoms amps. I have an older GFA-555 and a slightly newer GFA 7500. The 7500 has a cleaner and smoother, middle of the road (uncolored) sound to my ears. The 555 has a little more of that "electronic amplifier" sound. Becuse it's a little newer, the 7500 may have benefited from some technology upgrades that the 555 did get. Just a guess.

"electronic amplifier"? Not sure I understand that. Also, those are kind of like apples and oranges. One is a two channel power amp, the other a 5 channel HT amp?

I own a 555, it's never sounded electronic to me? The argument is that the original 555 is the simplest and most elegant design with the least amount of nonsense in the signal path so that it produces the most direct, purest sound. Whereas latter models introduce more at a cost.

    But I have no doubt the the 7500 is a nice multi-channel amp, albeit with less power than the 555 (200 watts x 2 @ 8 ohms, 325 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms).

As I said, this is only based on my limited Adcom experience with these two amps. I have not heard any other Adcoms. It is possible that the older one is just plain worn out and getting ready to fail. It's served me well but is now been semi-retired.

I have a 555 I bought from erniejade to power my 2.3tl's. Couldn't be happier. The 555II has circuit boards that are made from paper with resins. The 555II also had bad caps in it that start leaking after some time. When you go to unsolder them it smells like rotten fish. Because of the paper boards, the leaking fluid soaks into the board and causes shorts. It is a very tedious process to clean up the boards and make them useful again. You might want to research this on audiokarma. There are several threads related to this issue.
