I didn't think audio transmission delays between NY and OH would be so pronounced...

It's amazing to me that with all the money and technology available to network TV, they can't figure that crap out. I can video chat with someone in Japan right now with negligible delay using a 20 dollar webcam and a standard Internet connection, yet somehow CBS has a 5-second delay with a 100,000 dollar camera and professional transmitting equipment.

It could be because they are bouncing the signal off a dedicated news satellite. Excellent quality and fairly reliable and secure. Internet connections are not going to be as reliable and the quality will be lower.

Yep, he said he's gained a whole new perspective on life after kicking the drug and alcohol habit 2 years ago that caused him to lose his career at that time.

Ok...it's a great story...the guy has an opportunity for a second chance and gets off the streets...gets a job...reunites with mom...etc.

I really am happy for him.

But...Enought of this one. Surely there are more "feel good" stories than this one. If this is IT...we're screwed.

The media has a way of running even a good thing into the ground...don't you think?

Considering that video is posted by user "Kraftmacncheese", it's gone from the media to the corporate advertising world that's overhyping the guy now. Kraft is trying to get a little extra publicity with this video, that's all.

Of course it's by them. Who else would have hired him? Kraft is capitalizing on the viral nature of his publicity. That's kind of what he wanted. Now the tricky part is ensuring that it doesn't end in a month and he's able to hold a steady enough job, or at least get paid a ton of money in the short time his notoriety remains.

And now it comes out that this guy has NINE KIDS, that he abandoned. When asked if he ever felt bad for not helping, the answer was "no, the mother was very independent and never asked."

I no longer find his story all that heartwarming

I had a positive reaction with the first viewing, but then my brain kicked in. You don't end up 'on the streets' with a sign when you have a voice like that unless you're an incredible f-up. Yes, beyond drugs and alcohol. You were such a **** nobody wanted anything to do with you. 9 kids? Is he related to Sean Kemp? Jeeeeezus.

Keep him FAR FAR away from your family, business and anything you pay insurance on. He is a time bomb.....

LOS ANGELES -- Ted Williams, the Ohio homeless man whose smooth radio voice made him an Internet sensation, had to do some quick talking to Los Angeles police.

Officers were called when Williams and his daughter got into a heated argument Monday night at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa, Officer Catherine Massey said.

"I don't know how loud they were" but the argument at about 9 p.m. led to a disturbance report, Massey said Tuesday.

Couldn't agree more; let's see how all the P.R. departments for the Cavaliers, Kraft, etc. backpedal when they find out that they didn't do their due diligence on this guy and have to fire him. Imagine all of the desrving people who have children that they are trying to take care of, mortgages to pay, etc. who are honest, hard working people that COULD have had this opportunity. It's sad really that everyone jumped the gun on this guy and it turns out that he's a deadbeat dad who has a very questionable moral compass cashing in on a media hungry company.

I tried to find that quote, bobman, to read it in its entire context. I couldn't find it, but am not doubting that he said it.

However, I would disagree by what is meant by that statement.

Read one way, and if referring to his PRESENT attitude, that does seem cold-hearted and callous.
Read another way, the way the statement is meant to be read, IMO, he is saying, "Back in the 90's, when I was doing drugs, NOTHING mattered to me but the drugs."

And he said that because he meant it: when using drugs, NOTHING meant more to him than doing drugs.

Should he have been doing drugs ? Nope.

    But:

"Daughter Julia Pullien, 30, said she was 7 when Williams left.

"He wasn't involved," she said. "Our mom was our sole provider. She is a more than phenomenal person. My father is a nice guy, but he fell victim to the streets. We prayed for him and we worried about him, but we became accustomed to the fact that he just wasn't there.""

It would sound like a trite answer, coming from anyone else other than one of his daughters.
"....but he fell victim to the streets".

The Williams are/were from Los Angeles.
Perhaps some of the drugs that Ted Williams obtained were bought from the drug pipeline established by the CIA back in the 80's ?

If so, who should we despise more: the CIA or Ted Williams ?

People don't fall victim to the streets. They make decisions that land them there. And honestly, this guy could be an upstanding parent, and I'd hate him for having nine kids anyway, because that's irresponsible and idiotic. No one can take care of nine kids. The fact that he ditched them to be a drug addict? Worse.

I imagine that he and his daughter did have a heated conversation. Drug-using dad, now sober, appears and he and his daughter have some talking to do. The conversation did not, of course, involve topics such as : "So, was Harvard as nice as you thought it would be ?" or "How are things on Wall Street for you ?".

Nope. Not hard to imagine that it was , "Hey, where the hell were you at for the last XX years, you SOB !".

That would be a normal human response; totally understandable.

Posted this quote previously, but I'll post it again:

As I said before, perhaps Ted Williams was using drugs that had been supplied by the CIA established drug pipeline into LA.

My Grandmother and Grandfather did. Six girls and 3 boys. Not a one was ever in jail or on welfare. Other than my uncle Louis who died too soon in a tragic auto accident, they had long, productive lives. Four of the sisters are still alive...at or near 80 years old. I think they were taken care of just fine.

I repeat, people do not fall victim to the street. They make poor decisions and put themselves in bad situations. "The STreets" are available to anyone who wants to throw their lives down the toilet and live in them, and yet only this doofus did.

And I misspoke about the "no on can raise nine kids" thing. I just think it's an irresponsible decision, at least in modern days with how expensive it is to raise kids, not to mention that there's already too many freakin' people on this planet.

Well, we'll get that attitude changed once I win that all-expenses paid week at Jstas's house kharma !!

But .... let's just assume for a second (just to humor this crazy guy) that the CIA did funnel drugs into LA (among other areas, but let's just say LA).

Now, they wouldn't have done that just to stockpile it, would they ?
Or just to hide it, or get it "out of the way", would they ?
If they wanted to get rid of it, they could have just dumped it in the ocean.

So ... let's pretend they did funnel drugs into LA (again, just humor me).
It had to be with the knowledge that these drugs were to be sold ... no, HAD TO BE SOLD to get money for ..... some reason (and the reason is out there; Congressional testimony, Oliver North testimony, Directors of Intelligence agencies testimony, etc.).

    They HAD TO BE SOLD.

    To whom ?
    Pharmacists ? Of course not.
Medical research labs ? Of course not.

So that sort of leaves ..... Ted Williams and his community.

Caught in the cross-hairs of the Powers that Be, and some folks falter.
