Rectifier Tubes make a difference

Rolled some rectifier tubes in the Wright phono preamp and Wright preamp.

I am a happy man. It just keeps getting better. I have about 90 hours on the Treasure 6sn7s and figured I would try the following.

In the Preamp:
CV572=6X5G British Tungsram Tottenham UK NOS black plates "L"
6EA7 Tungsol black base - black plates NOS

In the phono preamp:
CV493=6X4 Brimar BVA England NOS "D" getter halo black plates

ordered a 6FY5 Amperex Holland "D" getter which should be here in a couple of days.

Next up is a quad of KT 88s Treasures in the Wright amp. There are still in Canada somewhere.

The rectifier tubes made the mids more lushess and blacker background. A definate step up IMO.

Its partly your fault George !

The manual for the phono preamp says 6EM7 like the preamp uses but in reality it is a 6FY7.

I have not listened to CDs in a while and decided to listen to a few lastnight.

Nothing but pure sweetness and goodness.

If the Treasure KT88s live up to half of what I read I will be beside myself in joy.

I have found that the rectifier tube is as important and in some cases more important than the driver tubes. I have spent a fortune on rectifiers as the current production stuff is even farther off the mark compared to NOS than some of the current vs NOS driver/phase splitter tubes.

My Dared absolutely sings with the 1945 Brimar STC CV1863 (5Z4G) rectifer. There is no comparison and I also have the widely acclaimed Bendix 6106 (5Y3). The Brimar sounds fuller, cleaner and has a much better soundstage. In fact I bought (3) of the Brimar's NOS (unused in military packs) from a guy in Sweden and paid a pretty penny for them. I wanted spares because they are that good and that hard to find.

In the Norh SE9 I have (3) Mullard GZ34's (5AR4) and they are the best going IMO, again (2) for back-up.
