and he's probably obsolete...:frown:

Walter Pidgeon passed away many years ago...Leslie Nielsen just recently and Anne Francis last night. Lots of talent in that classic Sci-Fi flick.

Interesting probably only to me....I was watching a Twilight Zone marathon on the Sci-Fi channel on New Years Day and one of the episodes stared Anne Francis. It struck me that she was a very pretty lady and I wondered if she was still alive.

Now I know.

RIP Anne

Forbidden Planet was on TCM last night. I went on Ms. Francis' web site this morning and she had posted, sometime earlier last week, that she was in poor health and not able to respond. She was really beautiful in that movie.

Nah.. tubes are back in style...

Heard this today and Forbidden Planet was the first thought. Great fodder for the Saturday late night horror host...

Then I remembered Honey West, her mid-60's TV show. Hit the airwaves when I was 13... near perfect timing.

I remembering seeing this film when I was a kid. I was mesmerized by the Sci-fi genre and, by Anne, of course!

    RIP, Anne Francis .

"Forbidden Planet" was a triple-goldplated classic of the '50's and still stands tall.

Never made the connection before between Anne Francis and "Honey West" before. Probably wasn't too concerned with names back then.

I would not have thought it was 10 years between FP and HW...

In a way the Krell audio company is a lasting memorial to the movie. They should begin naming their products after the characters in the movie.

That would be cool. Yes the name is a memorial to the movie. I remember reading an article where Dan D'Agostino talked about deciding not to use his own name for his new company. Forbidden Planet was his ex-wife Rondi's (who also worked as company president) favorite sci-fi movie so it was very familiar to them and thus the name KRELL.

Feel free to stop by the front desk on the way home and take a $50 out of the petty cash drawer for that thought. That is brilliant !

Let's see how would it go? "Morbius" would have to be their top-of-the-line pre-amp. The most powerful amp would be "Adams" with "Altaira" as the ultimate disc player. There would be a D/A converter called "Ostrow" and an AC line conditioner called "Quinn". The turntable would have to use a laser to read the record grooves and be called "Robby".

I'm just a nerd wannabe, a true nerd would have thought of a product to name after the Earl Holliman character, "Cookie". Maybe a digital streaming device called "Cookie"?
Actually, Forbidden Planet is a re-telling of The Tempest story. I always thought Captain Kirk had a bit of Captain J.J. Adams about him. There's talk of a remake, but that's been going on for several years. Who knows?

First off, everyone knows Ed Burns was "Cookie"...

And here I've been thinking that Cassavetes ripped off Forbidden Planet...

Everything will be remade at least once in our lifetimes... may we live so long.

Nah, she was wearing some kind of flesh colored nylon body suit or some such. Which you can see if you stop frame it. Obviously this is a question that many of us have 'pondered'. Is that sad or what?

The only product offering that would really fit the Earl Holliman character would be a spring reverb amp.

    RA-500.jpg

Yes, while Robby was busy distilling some "rocket fuel" for Earl, Earl could be over at the reverb amp, tapping on the top, listening to the awesome reverb effects !

..... not that I have personal knowledge of such things. That would make me a certified nerd.

I remember the Trains and got a chance to meet the man in NYC....Mr. Lionel (not really sure what his name was but he was a friend of a friend and we had dinner together when I was in Grad School. A nice guy).

I got a mechanical Godzilla like robot about 2 feet tall called the Great Garloo one X-mas. Those were the days.

Upon further review, it can be shown that the blame can be laid at Kenneth Swauger's doorstep.

... or credit. One of the two.

Watched cnh's "Great Garloo" video, and got to thinking: there's no way that there's any youtube videos of the Sansui RA-500 reverb amp. Well, I stand corrrected.

Watched about 4 of them but there isn't one video that shows anybody tapping on the top of the reverb (commonly known as "plunking", or "being an idiot".).
