DSW PRO 660wi Subwoofer

I recently purchased the DSW PRO 660wi Subwoofer. I am not sure what frequency to set the Onkyo 808 receiver at for the Fronts, Center, L/R Surrounds and Subwoofer. Any information will be appreciated.

Set the mains, center, and surrounds to "SMALL"....as in you want these speakers to have SMALL bass output. Set your SUB to 80 HTZ or lower setting. This means any output form your system which is 80 HTZ or lower will be handled through the sub and NOT the other speakers.
This is the most common set-up I believe....

Thanks, I did not see any option in setup for (small or large). When I ran the audissey microphone setup it assigned the fronts and center to 40hz, the surrounds to 50hz and the dsw pro 660wi (hard wired) to 120hz. Unless, I have overlooked it. I cannot find an option for small or large speaker settings. You said to set the sub at 80hz or lower. Is 120hz considered lower? Sorry for all the questions, but someday we will learn. My receiver is an onkyo 808 connected to my xpa-5. The fronts are RTI A9, the center is CSI A6. The surrounds are FXI A6. Thanks very much:eek:

Hmmm, my AVR doesn't assign the fronts/center/rears to any HZ, so I am a bit lost now. The setting of 120 on your sub means low frequency signals of 120 HZ or lower will be sent to the sub itself vs. the other speakers. A setting of 80 HZ means 80 and below only are sent to the sub, and 80 to 120 and above are sent to the other speakers. I have the same speakers as you and Audessy setting the sub at 120 doesn't seem right....I believe it should be set at 80. Im sure someone knowing more will chime in soon...

The settings are titled under SPEAKER SETTINGS>SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS [in the Onkyo TX-NR808 Manual]. As you know, you can either setup manual or use the Audyssey MultEQ Room Correction And Speaker Setup [the microphone],as I did. The manual states, "With these settings, you can specify which speakers are connected and a crossover frequency for each speaker. Specify "Full Band" for speakers that can output low frequency bass sounds adequately, for example, speakers with a good sized woofer. For smaller speakers, specify a crossover frequency. Sounds below the crossover frequency will be output by the subwoofer instead of the speaker. Refer to your speakers manuals to determine the optimum crossover frequencies. If you setup your speakers using Audyssey MultEQ Room Correction and Speaker Setup, please make sure manually that any THX speakers are set to "80Hz(THX)" crossover". That's what the manual says. The options for front/center/rear speaker setups are as follows>>FULL BAND>>40Hz to 80Hz(THX) to 100Hz, 120Hz, 150Hz, 200Hz. According to the manual those setting options apply to the L/R Fronts, Center, L/R Surrounds. The manual goes on to the SUBWOOFER LPF of LFE Settings (Low-pass Filter for the LFE Channel). The manual states, "With this setting, you can specify the cutoff frequency of the LFE channel's low-pass filter (LPF), which can be used to filter out unwanted hum. The LPF only applies to sources that use the LFE channel. The options for the LPF of LFE settings are as follows>>80Hz, 90Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz. The manual than goes on to talk about setting up the volumes (decibals-db). What can you make of this, I am lost. Thanks Tavo.:frown:

ok....since you are using speakers which can handle a pretty wide range of frequencies (compared to say Bose cubes or small bookshelves) set your sub to 80HZ (this will handle 80HZ and below), and set all other speakers to handle everything else - 80 HZ and above. Hope this makes sense....

Thanks kevhed72, So if I set my sub to 80Hz, you mean set my other speakers to say 90Hz, or is it the other way around (70Hz)? Sorry for not being that quick, some things just take longer for me to absorb. By the way, my Onkyo manual says that the LOW PASS FILTER SWITCH (the knob on back of the subwoofer) becomes disabled when I use the RCA Sub Out to LFE input, it says that the Onkyo Receiver becomes the default setting. Also, I can only go down to 80Hz on the Setup Menu for the Subwoofer (does this sound right), it does not offer me anything lower. What I don't understand is that I have read where the DSW Pro 600 (i have the 660wi) has been able to go down to 25Hz. Is that a receiver issue, would a different receiver allow me to set the sub lower that 80Hz? Thanks for taking the time to respond...TAVO

While I'm not familiar with your AVR, just set the sub to 80HZ. This will handle 80 and everything below. As far as the other speakers go, you want them to handle everything above 80....not sure what that would be denoted as on your AVR, but the manual should give you an idea.

Ignore the LOW PASS FILTER switch if you are running your sub from the AVR with a single RCA cable from the AVRs RCA out...
