5-Channel Stereo vs Multi Channel Stereo

I have a Denon 1802 that has 5-Channel Stereo mode. Looking at the new Denons, the 3311 is the cheapest model that has 5-Channel. The lessor models have "Multi Channel" with 5,6, or 7 channel options. What is the difference between the two types? I like my 5-Channel once in awile. Am I loosing anything with the other mode? I was going to get a 2311 but now I think I will go for a 1911 because I don't need the stuff on the 2311.

5 or All Channel Stereo is the stereo signal repeated in all the speakers. I imagine the center is matrixed. Multichannel, depending on how many inputs your AVR has is a discrete channel per speaker. It's for analog SACD or DVD A mulitchannel formats and can pass lossless PCM from blu rays when you player can decode. Not similar at all. Multichannel kicks **** and I'd never use All Channel Stereo...mucks up the recording.

I have not been able to try SACDs yet as I don't have a player. I just like the room filling sound of the "5-channel" sometimes.
Is "multi channel" best over HDMI or the analog inputs. The Denon 1911 does not have the 5.1 analog inputs. I might splurge for a higher model if it matters.Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!
