Looking to upgrade the RM8's that I'm using as surrounds...noticed that newegg has a decent promo on some polk stuff right night. Is there a huge differance between the Monitor40 bookshelfs and the Monitor50 floorstanding speakers? I'd be using it with Monitor 70s up front and a cs20 center. I'm leaning towards the 40's since they are so much smaller in size but have the same drivers as the 50's. Do the 50's sound much better or any better at all for that matter?

Current setup:
Yamaha RX-V1065
Monitor 70's up front
CS20 center
RM8's surround
PSW110 sub

The 50's can handle an extra 25w, and they go a little lower. But, the specs don't make enough of a difference to really be a deciding factor.

I'd say this - if you aren't wall-mounting or using stands, get the 50's. If you want to have options down the road, stick with the 40's
    65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)
    Pioneer Elite SC-37
    Polk Monitor 70's (2)
    Polk Monitor 40's (4)
    Polk Monitor CS2
    Polk DSW Pro 660wi
    Oppo BDP-93
    Squeezebox Duet
    Belkin PureAV PF60
    Dish Network "The Hoppa"

Yea I've got stands, I'm really leaning towards the 40's. Thanks for the input.

I have the 40s and have A/B'd them against the 50s. There is almost no difference in the sound between the two. The specs show something like 3 Hz lower on the 50s. I didn't notice it.
If you put the 40s on stands, be sure to put some space between them and a wall. I played with mine and got the best results with a foot between the wall and the back of the speaker. And a good three feet on the sides. If they have to be closer, 2 inches is a minimum!
Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!
