hello and thanks...

When I designed my basement HT, I installed TC625i's and TC620i's for the in wall rear surround sound, according to the Polk's web these timbre match with the RTi-A's, but I was wondering if the RTi8's will work as well for timbre matching?

thanks
chris

The RTi8's are acoustically identical to the RTi-A5, so yes.

    This is a good question

I have four RTi8 (Front LR, Rear LR). I'm using an RTi A (CSi A6) for the center.

I would say that my set up works well for me. (key phase)

I would also say that to RTi8 and RTi A line of speakers do sound nearly the same.

During a couple hours of demo at American TV here in St. Louis, I got the chance to sit and listen to the RTi8 and RTi A 5 floor standing speakers which are similar to each other.

Both pairs have two 6.5 inch drives and 1" silk dome tweeters. They have the same overall Frequency response (30hz-27kHz), same power recommendation, and the same 90 db efficiency rating.

However, while playing both pairs of speaker thru a Denon AVR, I found the RTi8’s to be brighter in its sound delivery vs the RTi A 5 which sounded a little warmer with all setting being equal on the receiver while playing Apple Lossless music tracks. I didn’t notice this as much during movie playback.

(NOTE) This could be because of American TV’s wiring and switching board set up which I would say leaves much to be desired. I have a Journeyman’s Electronic Certification from the US Air Force.

Secondly, while setting up my own system using an RTi A series center channel I felt the same way. This is to say that RTi8 sounded a little brighter in sound production than the RTi A center channel speaker. However, after a period of play and system calibration things lined up really nice.

I find the mixture pleasant to my ears. I’m not any expert but I do have ears…
I don’t think it will matter at all considering your rears are different.
    Fronts: Polk RTi A9
    Center: Polk CSI A6
    Rears: Polk RTi A7
    Receiver: Pioneer Elite SC-35 (140 watts x 7)
    Amplifier: Adcom GFA-555 Mk.II (200 watt @ 8 ohms)
Sub: Polk DSW PRO 500 (10 inch, 200 Watt)
    TV: Samsung 59 inch 3D Plasma 600 Hz PN59D7000
Sources: Samsung BD-D6700 3D Blu-ray Player, DirecTV, PS3, iPhone 4 and IPod Classic with Apple Lossless Tracks

Thanks everyone for your replies, this was very helpful. Currently I have Infinity IL30s for my fronts so I think I will see a massive improvements by rounding out my HT with Polks; currently debating between the RTi8 & RTi A3s
