Saw Robin Trower a couple of times back in 1973/4/5 (?) in San Franciso, Bill Grahams Winterland West. Powerful, and loud, but very tight. "Got it right" is dead on.
Saw Lee Michaels in San Francisco, too. Mention that because Lee Michaels had decided to change his "style" at this point in time. Took the stage, played "Highty Ho' (had never heard of it) and "You Know What I Mean" (had heard it before).
So far, so good. Pleasant enough, but everybody was waiting for the main group (can't remember).
After playing those two tunes, Lee Michaels made some kind of announcement from the stage about "tired of playing old stuff" or something .... he was flying pretty high .... and proceeded to attempt to play as a power trio. Attempt is the key word.
Only act I EVER saw booed off the stage. Crowd was booing almost as loud as Lee Michaels playing. After the 3d song .... off the stage.
Point being: Powerful and loud doesn't necessarily make good.
Robin Trower was very very good; loud and distinct and powerful. Tight and driving.
"Hannah", "Little Bit of Sympathy" ..... ahhhhhh.
Sorry for the rant. :redface:Sal Palooza -
I almost wouldn't want to see this really.
Trower is an awesome guitarist...but this kind of strikes me as being an "I just bought a new house and need to pay for it" tour...and he'll probably just be playing the same old tired out material. Most likely another instance of someone becoming a cover band of themselves.
I could be wrong though. Does he have any new material? The nirvana inducer-

Makes me want to cross the Bridge of Sighs.
Sorry couldn't resist, one of the guys I always wanted to see live. -

He just released his 33rd album, 'The Playful Heart'
I'd love to go see him, but all the shows in this area are on 'school nights':frown:I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
Guys,, I have been following him and attending his shows since the early seventies,,the man plays with sincereity and true emotion. My ticket cost 32 dollahs,,so he ain't tryin' to pay for anything other than his tour costs and some spending monies along the way.I strongly urge anyone who is remotely interested,,go see him play,, no special effects,,no false theatrics,,just music from the mans' soul.Have you ever listened to a song on your rig and it kinda' takes you someplace where time is irrevelent and the only thing that brings you back is the sound of the needle in the deadwax,,,and POOF,, you think to yourself,,"wow,I musta really got into that",,, well, that what Mr. Trower does,,, yeah, yeah,,I know,,, I'm a dinosauer :cool:JC approves....he told me so. Good to hear that he's not one of those aging rock stars going on the "Mortgage Payment Comeback Tour!!!". I was simply speculating above.
I wouldn't mind catching one of his shows. Trower is an excellent guitarist. I actually scored a really good Robin Trower live album on vinyl not too long ago. I forget the name of it offhand...it's a great album though. The nirvana inducer-

Not taking a shot a you CC,, the live lp I have was recorded in Sweden IIRC,and for a live lp,it's pretty good.He will typically greet fans after a show,,he's really a down to earth guy, just having a good time, and unlike alot of musicans,,he really gives a **** about the sound quality. He does play some new stuff,, but also plays the earlier stuff too,,in his last 2 shows that I caught,,he got into BOS and DOTE that was very reminisicent and on the same level of "perfection" as Hendrix did with Machine Gun,,as Clapton does with his live performances,,and for you youngsters,,Richie Blackmore did it the seventies with Child in time.Man,, I'm pretty passionate about this eh? Sorry for the long and winding reply. Rock on.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut) -

George, if you would be so kind to post this again as a reminder. It looks like he won't be in the Baltimore / East Coast region until summertime. I know I will forget by then. Cheers. -
Curt, I'd agree with you on the not wanting to see some ancient fossil on a "Mortgage Payment Comeback Tour!!!". When I first read that, the image of "The Who" at the Superbowl half time show came to mind.
Wasn't aware that he had just released his 33d album ! And it certainly is great to hear from George Daniel that he's the type of player who will sometimes greet fans after a show; he gave off that sort of impression from the stage.
Talented d0000d that enjoys what he does, and still willing to share what he still has the gifts for. That's cool.
No shows shceduled for our little berg, but there's a number of "TBA" dates after their Chicago appearance, so hopefully that'll change. They show up here, and I'd actually spring for tickets for my sons. They've never really seen a "real" concert ( one not "sponsored" by PEPSI ! or COKE ! or ? ! ).Sal Palooza -
I am hopefully going to see him in Charleston, SC on the 4th. It is a small, standing room only venue and should be fun.

It was a blast , last year at The Music Farm. I just found out Ill be in Augusta the night of the show in Charleston...... -
That is a strange coincidence DAG, I live in North Augusta and will be going to stay with my sister in Charleston for the show. It is always nice to see other Polk fans from SC and you should let me know next time you are up this way.

well,, lemme' tell ya,, if you like the sound of a strat thru marshalls,,,sweet silky highs,,with feedback,,mainly controlled,,long guitar riffs that take you out of your body,,to someplace warm and nice and cozy, then,,need I say more,,this show is for you.Packed house in Atlanta, small venue,1200 folks more or less,,excellent sound system,,Robin looked great, the band was tight and full of energy and played for about 105 minutes,, two song encore. I've been following this guy since the early seventies and tonight was one of his finest performances that I have ever witnessed.Rock on.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Baltimore, June 23rd. The Orioles should be comfortably out of it by then, so book it Danno. I've never seen him live so it should be a treat. -
nap-- are you familar with his music? He performed some stuff from his new lp,,and with some of his older stuff,he moves from one song to another,,,"Day of the Eagle--to Bridge of Sighs" is particulary good. He has never been one to jump around the stage, but does appear to be genuinely concerned about the SQ,,,in Atlanta(last night),,the road guys spent 15 minutes or so working with the sound guy to get the vocal mic's just right,,Robin's guitar has never sounded so sweet/smooth,,no "glare" to it,,but the "honk and kinda' pulsating ring" that you get thru the strat/marshall setup(think Hendrix) is just sublime.I hope that you get as much enjoyment as I did,,I just burrowed down in my set and enjoyed the ride. Have fun.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

One of the guys I had knowledge of but never really followed beyond Bridge of Sighs. I do remember his picture on the cover of Circus magazine and similar publications of the day. Sorry I know that sounds lame but that's about all I can muster.
