Old CDP

Anyone have an older Sony ES or Pioneer Elite (with removable wooden side panels) cd player laying around? I'd prefer that the face be clean/clear of any scratches but don't care too much for the top.

I'm interested, let me know what you've got!

Btw, if not a Sony ES or Pio Elite I'll consider something else. Wanted something a bit older, that offers quality sound.

Got this. Nothing special but it's yours for free if you want it. I'd have to see if I have a box for it.

Hey Lee, really appreciate the offer but I'll have to pass!

I wanted something for aesthetics as well as function. I loved the rosewood looking panels on the old Pioneers; as well as sounding really good.

I'd consider my Pioneer Elite PD-65...but you'd have to do some convincing. If you're looking for a bargain, this won't be it. I like it, and it's in beautiful shape - 9/10.

Well, New Years is right around the corner and you'd be giving me a chance to start the year off with a great CDP...more specifically something I've been looking for!

I don't expect a bargain if you decide to sell it (or am I going to have to pry it from you?). But some of these players have gone from $150-$600. Not your model specifically, but just a few players I've seen. I still kick myself in the **** for not grabbing a disk changer back while I was in IL off CL.

Not sure, I have to think about it.

I have thought back and forth of getting something newer with the latest chips, or trying some type of server, but nothing has convinced me to get rid of this yet?

I have a great older ES that George Grand picked up for me. It's yours for free if you want it. Solid transport, a lot of geek features and buttons. It sounds like Fishbone's option may be cooler tho....and more up to date.

I'm a big vintage Sony ES fan.

I don't have much hands-on experience but there were a few players/DACs I really liked.

The Pioneer BDP-51FD sounded really nice, but I sold it since I wanted something different. The Wolfson DACs took it to a whole new level compared to some Denon players I owned but not enough for me to keep it.

One pre/dac I really liked was the Peachtree Nova with its built-in ESS Sabre DAC. Never owned one but I had the chance to borrow one for awhile before I bought myself the Peachtree Decco. The Decco too had a built-in DAC but it didn't sound as good as the Nova so I sold that as well.

Ooh might have to take you up on your offer.

It's been awhile since I've heard a Sony ES but I really liked the way it sounded when I had my Maggies. Friend was selling one because it was 'too sterile' for him.....IMO it was neutral, uncolored.

Fishbones, take your time if you decide to part with it and how much you're asking.

If the ES player doesn't work out, I'll just have to send it back or Karma it off. Up to you Doro!

I think that ES players are perfectly sterile. I don't need a CDP to color my sound since that's what my pre-amp is for. Your friend is a ****. It's just sitting in a closet and yours....cover the cheap but bulletproof shipping and it's yours. $10.

    Either choice, you win IMO

Lasareath must be talking about the CDP-608ESD. It's only big brother was the CDP-707ESD. They were both in the line-up in 1990.

I've got a 9010X Pioneer that was the very first Elite (not marked Elite) but, it's got problems.:frown: I'm sentimental about it because it was my first CDP and it really is very cool looking with the side panels. I might try getting it refurbed one of these days. Kyoceras are similar in appearance, built like a tank and usually go pretty cheaply on the rare occasions that they come up for sale.

The first generation Kyocera sound awful. Plus the loading mechanism is unreliable. I found one by accident that actually worked flawlessly but it couldn't read every cd, which isn't abnormal for 1st generation players.

Doro, thanks again for that. Can't wait to hear it!

I'm loving the sound of my old Marantz, just wish it had pre-outs and some old Polks behind it. Coupled with that Sony player I bet it'd sound nice for a little vintage rig.

Got the player, and damn is it quick!

The second the tray closes, the disc information is already displayed and ready to play. Never had a player pick up a disc so quickly. Have to give it a go with the Marantz later tonight to hear how the two sound together.

Here are some pics, and thanks again Doro!

Hey, the 307 looks very similar to my 608. I wonder if they are the same, just for different countries. I see that the 307 has a voltage selector as the 608 does not.

Yeah, the 608 has fixed and variable outputs. The variable output is controlled by the remote control and as you adjust the output, the adjustment knob on the front panel turns as you change the output. The digital switch on the rear simply turns the digital output on or off. The analog output is always active.
