Bowl Games

Warning, sports rant.

Seriously! How many do they need & why is a team with a 6-6 record playing in one? Back in the day, I remember there being about 5 or 6 bowl games. Ya know, when only good teams played in them. Now it seems like there are more teams that make a bowl game than don't. I like football & all, but what's the point in celebrating mediocrity. They should have one called the "We Suck Bowl" for the worst 2 teams.

It's all about the money, sadly.

Agree that there are too many bowls. Money talks and we get deluged with games between teams with "winning" seasons. Even my beloved UGA is in one and they hardly deserve it.

Look at it this way--College football is the best game in town, and it will be 9 months before we get more. Just sit back and enjoy it. If you don't want to watch the lesser teams/games, don't.

Agreed Dave. I've long thought that the bowl games should be rolled into a playoff system.

Basically, you'd have the crappy bowls in the early rounds of the playoffs, and the semi-finals and national championship would rotate annually amongst the big bowls, while still being the result of a playoff system.

For example, round 1 of the playoffs would be in the "Meineke noone's ever heard of it bowl", while the semifinals would be in the Rose Bowl and the finals would be in the Fiesta bowl.

You'd obviously have to want a playoff system for that to work, but I think anything's better than the current system.
