Placette RVC Passive linestage; PRISTINE condition. It's about 6-8 months old, I'm the original owner. Both linestage and remote are flawless in appearance and operation. The linestage has 1 set of inputs, and 1 set of outputs (RCA). Box, manuals, receipt, and all accessories included. It was purchased directly from Placette Audio.

Hi Steve,
I dont know why you havent sold this passive on the forum. Passive attenuators are so much more clear sounding than active preamps. This is one of the best. I'm sure it will sell asap on the gon.Main system: Lyngdorf TDAI 2170 w/ Pioneer 42" plazma-> Polk LSiM 703 w/Tivo, Marantz tuner, BRPTT: Nothingham Spacedeck-> Pioneer PL L1000 linear arm-> Soundsmith DL 103R-> SUT->Bottlehead ErosDigital: I3 PC w/ Jriver playing flac -> Sonore Ultrarendu -> Twisted Pair Audio ESS 9028 w/ Mercury IVY Vinyl rips: ESI Juli@24/192-> i3 PC server -

PM replied to...my Parasound HCA is 33k ohms input impedance; so check with Placette, they are very responsive to emails.

I'll pass for now... doesn't seem to be compatible with my system because my amp's input impedance is too low (10 kohms).
With the right setup (basically any quality source and an amp with input impedance > 20 kohms), this would be a killer addition to any rig.
Thanks again, Steve, and good luck with the sale!

I'm puzzled by this. I can understand why a preamp would have trouble with an amp with too LOW input impedance (3 db point = 1/(2piRC)) but why would a passive care? I can't see why the power amp would care. What did they (Placette) tell you, dbaldus? The world is full of answers, some are right and some are wrong. - Neil Young -

I actually never heard back from them and gave up, but did read a couple of magazine/journal reviews that said it might be a problem.
The one that comes to mind immediately is the 10 Audio review, which I will quote here:
"I would not recommend using this preamp with Pass Labs amps and their 20k Ohm input impedances, but with a short run of low capacitance cables, the pairing might be fine."
"To allow the Placette to work well in your system, you might need a source with more gain, or a power amplifier with higher input impedance."

I also read this in other places as well, but can't find the links at the moment. I was just worried that it wouldn't work in my system and couldn't get a definitive answer from Placette, so I passed on it.

My IC's from the Placette to amp are just .5mtr Hero's; the only issued I have had with output is some extremely low output channels on DirecTV (though the vast minority), but even with those, the passive is able to drive the amp plenty loud. Never had any issues with any "typical" audio component driving the placette.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Which Pass amp would you run it with?"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. I had a guy who saw this thread send me a low-ball offer. I was gonna respond, but accidently deleted the email. Steve,
It was probably my lowball offer. $500 shipped to Clarkston, WA 99403.
I'm working on my budget. Not a great week for me to be buying audio gear.
Thanks.

Well, if you're interested at $585 shipped, let me know, but this unit is as mint as a used unit gets. I'm in no hurry to sell. Keep in mind too, that price is intended for Club Polk members only, on audiogon it would be listing for $685 shipped--but I'll honor the $585 for you.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2
