Finally not drooling anymore!

After a lot of consideration I finally took the plunge on the one piece of audio gear I've wanted since it's release... I bought a JL fathom 112 this morning from a dealer in Denver! I got the gloss black finish to match the lsi15s and it should be here in a few days. I don't think I've been quite this excited for any other piece of my setup to arrive!

Congrats! Those JLs are some very nice subs. All this talk about people getting new subs is making me want to build a second 15" The one i just built in November is a beast but damn I would love to have a second one just like it lol:biggrin: I've always thought about using one of the JL drivers in a build to see what it would sound like. Definitely wanna know how you like the new sub, and bring on the pics:biggrin: Oh, and if you start drooling when it arrives, just make sure you wipe it off that nice and shiny finish:tongue:

Very nice! I recently heard a pair of their larger brothers(F113), you're definitely in for a treat!

    Danz,

What's the latest status on your sub? After communicating with you on 12/23/10, I asked Santa for a pair of F113's and he (err... she) delivered. Mine came today. Thanks again for your knowledge and advice.

Now, I've got to unload a pair of Polk PSW1000 subs that I purchased in early 2009.

2011 is starting off as a great year!

The sub is in the house and hooked up! What a pain in the **** lugging it up the stairs and unboxing it but man has it been worth it thus far. I haven't had a huge opportunity to listen to it yet but during the calibration sweeps you get a good idea of what it's capable of. Things were rattling inside of my cabinets on the other side of the room during some of the tests and the excursion on the woofer during it was SICK. Can't wait to get it broken in and be able to push it a bit and see what it will really do.

Congrats to you. Wish I had the coin. I've run JL's in car audio for many years and I can't imagine the quality/reproduction & spl they put in their home subs. I'm jealous.

    grimmace19,

How do you have it connected to your AVR (LFE or Preamp Out)? What are your settings since running the ARO?

    Level Mode =
    LP Filter =
    LP Freq. (Hz) =
    e.l.f. trim (db) =
    phase (deg.) =
    Polarity =

I initially set up my pair of F113s according to JL's instructions (Master/Slave connection) and used the ARO via the Pioneer SC-27 AVR (connected to Pioneer's LFE). I wasn't too excited about the sound so I used a "Y" connector and re-calibrated them in the "Master" mode. I like this way better.

However, any tips would be appreciated.

I have a single cable running from the subwoofer out into the lfe on the back of the JL. Because I only have 1 it requires I use it on master. I haven't messed with many of the settings after running the ARO but I keep the volume at about 10 o'clock and have it crossed over at 80 where my speakers are. I haven't changed the polarity at all and likely won't make any real changes in the next few weeks because I am moving into a house. As soon as I move I will recalibrate anyways so for now it sounds fantastic and I will likely get it to sound even better later on.

My 10" Fathom has taken my bass to a whole new level of performance. Mind you my floor-standing speakers go down low to like 35-40 hz, so the sub I cross over at 45 Hz and it adds so much more depth and foundation to any music. It really shines when listening to a live rock music or classical music.... My only regret was that I didn't get a bigger version like the 12" or 13" model. I recently added an Anti-mode 8033 sub eq and it did a nice job of improving an already excellent sound. It's difficult for me to really dial in the details (phase, volume, elf trim) with this sub using my ears. So I'm thinking about getting a Velo SMS-1 to help with this. So, I still haven't heard the potential of my sub yet.

Glad you're enjoying yours. Pretty hard not to love it because it does so many things right and has lots of features to really get it dialed in. You definitely get what you pay for.
