psw10 port problem

I have been experiencing some very noticeable and annoying port noise at higher higher volumes. Any suggestions on how to minimize or completely rid the additional noises?
Thanks

Turn the volume down or get a better sub. You are asking more than what your sub is capable of doing and the port noise is it's way of telling you it has reached it's operational limit.

Thank you for such quick posts. When I first read the sock post I thought you were joking. It seems as though this is actually working so I thank you. Also, should I be at all concerned about power loss or anything like that with the socks shoved in the port?

Matt - I wish I could buy a better sub but unfortunately, that is not financially applicable. You see, I am only 15 and if my sub beat any harder my parents would get a little mad. I'm actually quite lucky to have this one. :) Thanks though, I will keep that in mind.

Besides losing output, your subwoofer is not designed for variable tuning and you may damage your driver. I would contact Polk to be on the safe side.

Just for grins, I put some Sonic Barrier (foam) scraps that I had inside beside and below the port. This did seem to reduce some of the port noise and improve SQ. If I get more foam material, I may play with it more.

That particular sub is EASY to overdrive..and that's what's happening. Years ago I had it's big brother...still sitting in a box in the basement, the PSW12 which also suffered from port noise when PUSHED. The solution involved a HORRIBLE amount of time tweaking....almost 2 months worth of adjusting and moving. I finally found that having 'my' sub at a right angle to the listening position and 7-8 feet from it with the volume gain at 11 o'clock did reduce the port noise. Actually, if you put your ear up to the sub you could still hear some, but from the listening position there was no hearable effect.

Every room is different so this may or may not work for you. The idea is to face the PORT away from the listening position, not overdrive it and see if that might help...or not?

when i had mine it did the samething. I shoved a sock in the port, and did a little bit of polyfill inside. It helped some but it kept getting on my nerves so I sold it and got a dsw600. Now i have no more port noise, and a lot more rumble :)
