Please Clarify for me!

Ok so I've been reading so many contradicting things on the internet...can anyone please give me the correct settings (or at least where to start) for my bass management...here's how i have it set up now.
Yamaha RX-V1065 Receiver
Monitor 70 fronts
RM8 Surrounds
CS20 Center
PSW110 Sub

The sub is hooked up to the receiver through the sub out into the LFE in.
On the receiver i have LFE/Bass Out set to BOTH and Bass Crossover Frequency set to 40hz. The knobs on the sub are set to volume at 12 o clock and the low pass set all the way over to 160hz like the yamaha's manual says to do (unless I'm reading it wrong, which is a strong possibility haha).

So my big questions are what should I have the receiver settings set to? How should I have the sub hooked up (ie. with the LFE cable or with speaker wire through the speaker in/out)? And where should the knobs on the back of the sub be set to? I just feel like the sub is not even there, very flat no bass from the system as it stands right now.

Set the receiver crossover to 80hz, crossover should be set like you have it...all the way to 160hz, personally, I usually leave the volume all the way up, but thats just me.

So keep it set to BOTH and don't mess with the cable? Just curious because if you read the PSW110's manual it tells you to go the speaker in/out route i think.

PLayed some Need for Speed and the bass seemed heavier..I turned the volume up on the sub a little and that helped alot...will watch a movie on the ps3 later today/tonight.

In regards to your LFE/settings if your system has a subwoofer the ONLY place your receiver will send LFE is to the subwoofer, whether you use the SUB or BOTH setting. LFE and bass are two different things. LFE is the specific .1 channel of a movie's soundtrack. What the BOTH setting does is it sends the bass (not LFE) from the front channels to BOTH the front speakers as well as your subwoofer. So this setting duplicates the bass in your front channels, that is below your crossover setting, at the subwoofer. It does nothing to the LFE. LFE always comes out of the sub and the sub only (when you DO have a subwoofer). Of course, whether you use the SUB or BOTH setting, any bass below your crossover setting from speakers set to SMALL is sent to the subwoofer.

IMO I would set the LFE/Bass to Sub and cross over at 80hz and work from there. Your center and surrounds can't do 40hz and it's at the very bottom end of what your mains are capable of.

If you run the YAPO sound optimization program you need to turn your subwoofer's gain to around the 9-11 o'clock position and then run the YAPO. Unfortunately YAPO generally does a poor job of setting the signal output from your AVR so you may have to go back into the setting and adjust it to taste. A SPL meter would be very beneficial in making these fine tune adjustments.

Your sub isn't an output monster but using these setting might give you a better experience with it.

I would also keep in mind that sub is not gonna give you the gut moving impact you may be expecting it too.
