im new to the site so hello to everyone...... I was informed by an employee at Furture Shop today that single ended sub cable was enough for a sub that is set up for left/right plug ins. Is he correct or am I going to lose performance in my sub. Any advise would be greatly appreciated??? heres a picture

    WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!

The PSW 10 does not have a single LFE IN but since the sub out on a receiver is a mono signal that might work. I've never used this sub?

But, if it were me, I would use a Y cable into the L/R INs on the sub above, from a single ended cable from the AVR LFE or SUB-out.

What does the Polk Manual say to do?

The manual shows using Y into L/R ...but the future shop didnt have any of these cables and the guy said a single sub cable would work ....

Is it a PSW10? Should be ok with or without the Y cable:

You'll be fine with just a single cable. Connect it to one of the inputs, and that input will effectively act as an LFE input.

you may get a 3db output boost since you are effectively sending a mono signal on both the inputs so the output would typically be summed...also can help turn on the sub (trigger) at lower levels due to the summing...some people have issues with the sub not turning on automatically during certain scenes that may have low LFE so the y adaptor could help there...

I don't see how a Y adapter would help with the auto turn off.

The solution to that issue would be to turn up the sub level in your AVR, and compensate for the increased volume level by turning down the gain on the sub itself. This causes the sub to sense a higher voltage input, and prevents the sub from turning off during quiet passages.

Also, I can't see how it would be louder with a Y cable. It's still receiving the exact same signal from the AVR...and thus should be the same volume. Either way, the volume levels can be compensated for in setup.

in my personal experience, I did get a boost due to the "summing" that I mentioned above. IF you search for y adaptor 3db output boost, there are a lot of other forum posts talking the same thing...

I dont want to post forum links so I'll post one from aperion audio.. ymmv on whether you indeed get a boost as I said above as well...
