Sony Blu-ray player / Netflix question.

I recently purchased a Sony BDP S570 Blu-ray player and when I went to go hook up the settings for the Netflix and wireless streaming, I ran into a snag. I don't know what to do at this point besides return it.

Here's the deal. I go to input the WPA address for the Wi-fi and that is the very first step in hooking the wireless streaming up. Well, I will not disclose the address, but I will say that there are some capitol letters, apostrophes and an ampersand. Apparently, there is no way to do any of these. Numbers and lower case letters only.

I got on "Live Chat" with Sony a week or two ago and they said that I need to change my password [same scenario] as well as call my cable company to change the WPA address. I must be honest. I don't know a clue about any of this as I am computer stupid and I usually just wait until a friend [who knows about computers/wi-fi] stops by to help set everything up.

Yesterday, I had a chat with my brother and he said to return it, that I shouldn't have to go through all that just to get streaming enabled. He and all his buddy's have been streaming for some time and nobody he knows of had to go through all this.

Is there anything I can do without calling in a professional, or should I just return the unit? I bought the unit for the Blu-ray for me, Netflix for my wife. If the wife ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

Does anybody who has this unit or similar situation have any advice?

If you get this resolved, please update the forum. I've been thinking about buying this model for a small media room and definitely want to know if I'm going to have any issues with the wireless connectivity.

I had no issues adding symbols to my wep passcode. You should be able to switch the on screen pad to different options.

When you go to enter the wep passcode. A number keypad will come up. On the lower right hand side under the green enter button there's a button that say 123. Click that three time and it will change to the symbol keypad. Hope that helps.

Ok, we have gotten through to the wireless thanks to the above post. Thank you very much jckara81, it worked just fine with your advice. It looks like all we have to do is get on the 'puter and set up the Netflix account.

Thanks again, it is most appreciated.

OK just a short, mini-review. I like it a lot. I must say that it is DVD quality. I watched part of an older movie and, well, it looked like an older movie. I then switched to a newer movie and all of the negatives I was expecting with wireless crap plainly didn't exist. It was just like we had plopped in the DVD and we owned it.

The only thing I would comment on negatively would be the sound so far. It sounds veiled, laid back, far away, not very detailed, cut off on the top end and not quite enveloping and on par to the movie but it sounds better to me than XM radio used to a couple of years back. Nothing that a few adjustments can't take care of, if you have that sort of thing.

Heck, maybe there is even an adjustment within the player itself. I don't know, I'll fiddle with that later on. Right now my wife is happy watching a movie and to me, that's all that matters [that she's happy]. She has been impressed as I have so far and probably has filled up the incoming DVD's by mail X10. She's good like that.

I do have another question, the last time I went to do an A/B to the Denon 2910 and this player on SACD, there was an echo of some sort on the SACD playback. Drove me bonkers and I only listened to it for a minute or less. Anybody out there think that's a hookup issue, a setting adjustment, a software issue or just the way it is?
