Sadly, for me, this is typically my fate. Except for the wrong parts.

So true. I had to replace the seal between the tank and bowl on my toilet. I decide to buy a complete repair kit and replace everything in the tank as I needed a new fill valve anyways as it was filling very slowly. And having everything would save me going back for parts, right?

So what happens? The first turn to loosen the tank from the bowl, the bowl cracks. Now I get to go back and buy a whole toilet. No longer need the repair kit.

If you're having to do any kind of plumbing repair, it's almost guaranteed that you'll be making several trips to HomeDepot/Lowes.

Installed a garbage disposal several months ago, and sure enough: thought I had/didn't have part/tool/etc, so it was back to Lowes.

Avoided the final trip when the decision was made, "Fug it !" and broke out the JB Weld.

    No leaks yet !

I'm pretty sure HD is going to start charging me rent. I'm there guaranteed once to twice a week and it's not even for work.
Ran out of sheetrock.....ran out of sheetrock screws....my drill died.....ran out of sheetrock screws. Now i buy the screws by the 5lb box just to be on the safe side.

It's not just Home Depot either. Car parts stores and ever Radio Shack when they sold stuff worth while.

What was REALLY a drag is when you bought everything of the part you needed at Shack and still needed more so you had to go to a place like Circuit City. *shudder* They usually had the part (wires, power fuses, stuff for car stereo) but you had to deal with Captain Skippy the Salesdude who knew everything about everything but really knew nothing.

Always buy both parts, you know you will be back for something else later and you can return the "wrong" one then!

Yes, 2 and 3 visits are not uncommon when I attempt a seemingly simple project!

I'm not particularly handy. But in a variety of home projects, I've found that dealing with your local, perhaps smaller and (been around LONGER), hardware store that not only are their people more knowledgeable but you DO develop a relationship with one or two of them who then can even hand you what you need before you even ask them because they remember what you're doing and have already figured out how competent or, in my case, incompetent you might be.

Fortunately for me...there's a good store just around the corner about two blocks.

I only live 15-20mins from Summit Racing...so I can at least drive back there the next day:biggrin:

I always buy more then what I need, and still have to make a second trip. I like having extra stuff at the house, every now and then you get lucky and have it in the garage.

1/2" copper tubing, fittings, and solder?? I always have some around.
    Pipe tape and dope? Check
    Sprinkler heads?? Check
    Thermal Coupler??Check
    Ball Valves?? Check
and a bunch of other crap!!!

    Yep! That's me too!

The thing I love the most...is how you can't find the tool that you need, you tear the house and shop apart trying to find it...and it's just not to be found. Then you go and buy a new one, and two days later you find the one that you already had when you aren't even looking for it.

^^^ I''ve purchased extra Flashlights, hammers and razorblades/box cutters only to find the missing one a couple days/weeks later.

Fun, I now have them in my basement, garage and with the camping gear! And the kids even get a flashlight now too!
