Ok I have a Yamaha RX-V459 that has no HDMI.
For my audio for my DVD(Swapping out for Blu-ray)I use the Optical audio.
I have a Vizio 42" LCD E420VO that has 3 HDMI hookups.
I have a Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray that has a HDMI and a Digital Optical out.
Here is the question....see if ya follow me.....
I wanna hook the Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray to my Vizio LCD HDTV via 6ft HDMI cable for the full 1080p video......now if I continue to use the digital optical cable I have hooked to my Yamaha for the full surround sound......will it still work that way?
or will hooking the HDMI from the Blu-ray player cancel out the Optical out that'll be hooked to it at the same time?
(The short)
TV to Blu-Ray direct via HDMI for full 1080p video.
Yamaha HT Receiver direct to Blu-Ray via Digital Optical for full surround sound.

Yes you can work it that way with HDMI going to the tv and optical to the receiver, but you will not get the HD audio like DD HD or DTS HD master audio. Maybe time to buck up for a new receiver.HT SYSTEM-

Thanx Tony!
I'll try it and see. (Hope to have the Sony BDP-S350 by the end of the year)
Sound is quite impressive from my DVD setup this way.
Main thing I'm bucking for is the super improved video via Blu-Ray 1080p.
To rely on my TV for the sound would suck.....but from what you say....there shouldn't be a problem.
