No, it's not that.
Just a bunch of dirty hippies actually knitting a sweater for a frickin' Prius.

That's right. Millions of people in the world down on their luck, needing things like clothes, food, a roof over their heads...hell, a JOB even! What do these sphincterbags do? They knit a freakin' sweater for a frickin' Prius.
Lame.

You know what sucks even more? It's not even a GOOD sweater, like a Dr. Huxtable sweater! It's one of those stupid sweaters your aunt knits you and gives to you as a "Gift"! What's even worse about those is that you can't even RETURN it to a store so you can get the cash or credit to get something you actually wanted!Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Hate to burst your bubble there sport but they weren't paid actors:
http://www.toyotapriusprojects.com/#/The winter months are here and we didn’t want to leave our most iconic car feeling chilly. So we gathered a few friends and headed down to Austin to knit a Prius a holiday sweater.
On a brisk windy day, with a beautiful rustic barn as our backdrop, we began our knitting adventure. Our knitters, armed with needles and skeins of yarn, worked from sunup to sundown to create our festive final product. We even had a first timer, who learned to knit that day, knit a scarf to help keep Chloe the Chihuahua warm.
In the end, we created a beautiful winter-blue cozy, complete with handmade snowflakes and Prius badging. We hope it gives you as warm a feeling as it gave us.
And stay tuned in 2011, when we’ll be asking the community what to do next with the custom cozy.
Happy holidays from Toyota.
That was just number 5 in a series of 8 planned self-promotion spots where Toyota takes advantage of it's idealistic customer who have an overwhelming need to "belong to something bigger than themselves".
Since they can fit inside a Prius, I guess it would be something bigger than themselves.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Oh jeez. And just who the hell are you to call these people sphincterbags for doing this instead of helping people? It's ok to pass judgement, but not to be judged, i see.

Who am I? Someone expressing my opinion about their activities. Calling them sphincterbags is not passing judgment. Is it childish? Yeah, probably. Do I care if a hippie is mad at me for calling him names and harshin' on his high? Nope, not at all.
However, you have stated that you certainly hope that all those commenting on the above video have done something to help the homeless. You have challenged everyone in this thread to prove their worth and ability to post their opinion, protected by law BTW, by requiring some level of charitable work. The neat thing about this country is that I can do all the charitable work I want and I don't have to tell ANYONE about it. Not even the government. I don't even have to do ANY charitable work at all if it so suits me! Neither does any other person who posted in this thread. Furthermore, NO ONE has to answer to a self-important little **** on the Internet about what they do or don't do in regards to charity.
It is not your concern or place to try and discredit people because you disagree with their opinions. Whether these people do or do not support any kind of charitable gifting at all let alone an organization is none of your business. If they choose to make it public, that's on them. Those people in the video and Toyota have chosen to make their activities public. They will draw public commentary. That includes people commenting on not only the absurdity and waste of resources that it is but also what the action conveys in the public eye vs. what they intended it to convey.
I maintain that these people in this video are witless pawns to Toyota who have exploited a false sense of worth through their savior-car, the Prius, to goad these mental midgets in to performing these projects to "belong" to a "movement" that is ultimately socially and environmentally irresponsible. If you don't like it, tough s#!+. Furthermore, I reserve the right to discuss my charitable contributions to society at my liberty. I do not have to answer to anyone concerning it and I certainly won't be guilted in to it by a faceless name on the Internet.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

A sweater for a Prius is a pretty stupid idea, and that's coming from someone whose wife drives one--Ok, I drive it sometimes...but I'm mostly in my Chevy!
If you're going to knit something for a Prius....Knit a kevlar cover that's, like Bullet proof? Or Cover it with Carbon fiber nano-fabrics--I'm there for either one.
And, agree, you could've made a lot of sweaters for people who are cold and homeless instead of treating a Prius like a Freaking Christmas tree?
I don't mind hippies....they're too poor to buy a Prius--in fact they could probably use some of those sweaters about now? These guys/gals are posers.

It is indeed very stupid, but just because they're a bunch of douchey hipster doofuses, not because they could be "donating their time to charity" or anything so dramatic. We could all be doing charity work rather than typing on a stupid message board, but we're not.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
