...on a new Dared SL2000 tube preamp today. It's on the way to me. Can't wait! I know there is some love on this forum for it, and from what I've heard about it and the budget I had, it sounds like it's certainly worth a try. If any of the experienced ones on this unit have recommendations of future tube rolling on it, I'd love to know.

Outstanding pre-amp. Replace the cheap chinese tubes ASAP, especially the rectifier.
I actually have quite a few spare tubes I'm getting ready to liquidate because I have WAY too many. So when you're ready shoot me a PM as I have some great duplicate tubes that sound great in that pre for really reasonable $$$.
This is one of those hidden gem's that will keep you shaking your head because with the right NOS tubes it just shouldn't sound as good as it does.

For $60, I'll put together a nice package of 2/pr. of tubes and a nice rectifier for you. You can use the Chinese tubes for awhile and then swap in the old stock tubes and rectifier and see what the difference is.

Where did you buy it from? Is it new from Joe Zhou in Naperville, IL (authorized US distributor) or used from ebay or audiogon? Just curious?

Hi H9, thanks for showing up. Yes, I bought it new, from Joe. He's excellent BTW! He had it shipped out to me with tracking number in less than 10 minutes!
And Yes, I'd love it if you would set me up with something like that. I don't have the know-how to do what you've done with it. Your posts on it are what got me so excited in the first place.

It's hard to say because of the different type of tube's it uses and the Dared is tube rectified vs the Dodd's solid state recitification. It's every bit as good as the Dodd and in some instances it's better with the right rectifier tube.
The Dared responds superbly to tube rolling. I had my ears on the Dodd for awhile, but obviously I've had more time with the Dared. The Dodd was impressive as well. I'd call it a draw except the really nice tubes for the Dared are a lot cheaper than the really nice tubes for the Dodd because of popularity mostly.
