Heat Shrink question

I'm adding new copper banana plugs to my home-made PNF jumper cables and want to finish it with heat shrinking. This will give it cleaner look and protection. I've never used it before and was unsure about what size to buy. Does the actual length of the tube shrink or just the diameter or both?

Get a multi-pack from Radio Shack. It's nice to have a variety of diameters on hand.

You will only need a few inches in length.

in my experience, the diameter shrinks, not the length.

never used it in home audio aplications, but have used it for putting actuve preamps in a couple of my basses. pretty easy to use and shrinks quite a bit. I am sure it's possible to use a piece to wide, but it is hard to. I never had that problem and usually judged what size to use by eye and never had a problem.

Actually, it shrinks both ways (diameter and lenghtwise). When cutting your pieces, just make sure it overflows on the protected area of the wire and you will not have any problems.

How much do you need? I have some extra 1/2" 3 to 1 adhesive red and black shrink tube.

Thanks Jimmy. However I need some thicker tubing to fit over the cables.

Thanks for you help gents. Should be a fun project. I'll take pics when they're done.

Not sure what heatshrink tubing your using, but it shrinks on the diameter.
