Was visiting tonight with my parents and finally had a look at his speakers. I originaly thought they were Advent. But no. They are ADS L780/2s. A three way with very interesting dome mid and tweet. Does anyone know anything about these? Good stuff or bookends?

Excellent stuff. Those mids and tweeters were way ahead of their time.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

ads made some great loudspeakers (started as a US subsidiary or reseller of Braun loudspeakers and/or components). Recent thread rat cheer on these forums:

I won't regurgitate my comments here... but I will repost this link to plenty of ads information in the form of scans of old brochures and other docs.

There are some fellow polksters here who have various ADS models speakers and love them.I've researched them before and heard nothing but good things about the ADS line.

Nice! That's the ones. They do sound awesome! Unfortunately, he has them hooked up to a NAD reciever of similar vintage that is craping out. He is getting a late Christmas presant of a new Denon 397 reciever to run 'um!

It's not like he pushed him down the stairs or anything... though it would speed up the inheritance.

His Dad's ears must be going if polkfan thinks Monitor 40's will sound as good as the ADS's.:)

BTW those ADS speakers are real nice. Like Ben said the Dome Tweet and Mid were way ahead of there time.

You guys crack me up! As for the trade, he wouldn't care. The story on how he got it would make you cry. His friend bought the stuff new (late 80s), had it for about a week, didn't like it (?) and then just gave it to my dad! I didn't catch the model of the NAD reciever but, it weighs over 30 pounds! He also got a new turn table in the deal! The lot had to have been $1,500 or so back then! Nuts!

Back in the late 70s I was in an audio store in Austin buying a new cartridge when I heard a speaker in another part of the store and it was the most incredible sound I'd ever heard from a loudspeaker. I quit what I was doing and walked over to see what I was listening to expecting a huge floor standing behemoth but that sound was coming from a speaker not even 2 feet tall...smaller than my AR2ax. They were the ADS 710s and at the time priced just above my price range. About 2 yrs. later I found a mint used pair for $300. The guy was selling these ADS 710s so he could buy a pair of Bose 901s!
Maybe 20 yrs later the foam surrounds crumbled and I gave them away. I didn't even think about having them fixed:mad: I had Polk 10 monitors by then and although they weren't as clear as the ADS they had a more open sound.
There were some ADS 880s that sold on bay for $500 last week.
