Hey, I know you guy's at Polk built the Ford Escapes. I was wondering, Did you replace the Alternator? If so, What did you use? I ask because I am having trouble finding a unit. I have the 01 Escape on Crutchfields website. With a few changes. My amps are now RF Power 550x and BD500. I dont have the 15's anymore. Running a pair of DLS 12's in a sealed box.
Thanks
Chris

No, we didn't change the alternator. The only "electrical upgrade" would be the Optima yellow top.

No problems so far, but they're not the highest powered systems.

chris if you're really starved for power u can try Ohio Generator (www.splmax.com is one of their distributors and will get u the lowest price of OH Gen stuff usually)...

but the problem is they're so damned expensive... the only good thing about ohio gen versus some other ones is a good warranty and they guarantee it'll fityour vehicle with no modifications necessary.. just bolt in and go.

they priced me at 525-ish for a 200 - 220 (i think something like that) alt for my truck -- which is insanely high... but when i talked to them on the phone and they told me what they actually DO to an alternator to make it put out that much power, and then compared it to what some other people say they do to an alt to get those numbers, it's clear that OH Gen goes the extra mile and most likely is much more reliable and long lasting than the others.

also might wanna look at Powermaster / Wrangler North West / Mean Green... they all can do 120 - 150 A units without a problem susually... its the 200 and higher units that start giving u a headache.

PBD, Thanks. My only peev with the 200 amp models is the low output at idle. My engine runs 2500 at 80mph on the interestate. My stock is 110 amp. I would like to get one about 150 for the higher output at low speed.
    Wrangler NW has a 150 for $290 + $25 shipping.
My 93 Escort GT had a 150 amp made by AIS. Drove the car for a year with no problems. Was Brand New. Bolted right in and used factory plug. I had the Mazda made 1.8 which came with a 60 amp Mitsubishi alt. I called them back a while ago. The person was clueless.
