Cherry Matching Subwoofer for RTi4 & CSi3

Hi, I just bought (discontinued) RTi4 bookshelf & CSi3 center speakers from Crutchfield. Now I'm considering a matching subwoofer. However, the recommended match by Polk (PSW111) is only available in black - not cherry. When I asked Polk if the PSW110 or PSW10 cherry would match, they said "no" since they are vinyl-wrapped and a different shade of cherry than RTi4 & CSi3. They said no cherry sub will match the RTi4 & CSi3. Is this true?

Many thanks!
Gary

    Gary,
    Nice first setup.

I too started with RTi4s and the CSi3 - you are going to love the nice sound!

As much as you want to stay with Polk for a sub, you don't have to match a sub to your speakers. If you are set on getting a cherry finished sub then look at other sub manufacturers: Hsu, SVS, Velodyne, etc and pick a sub that matches your budget and what you want for the finish.

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

    Erik,

Thanks so much for the reply. Since I'll be buying mail-order (sight unseen), my problem is that I cannot tell which sub will be a good match for the RTI4 and CSi3 (pics are rather misleading). So if anybody knows from personal experience what model sub (Polk or otherwise) will match the cherry on the RTi4, I'd appreciate knowing.

    Sincerely,
    Gary

If you're looking for a perfect match to your Cherry RTi's, you'd be hard pressed to find that with even another set of Cherry RTi's. I had a pair of RTi8's, and a CSi5 at one point...all of which were acquired used, from different people, and at different times. (I got the CSi5 about a year after my RTi8's). My older RTi8's were darker than my CSi5s. Real Cherry wood (like the veneer used in the RTi's) will darken with age.

    Here's a pic I took back then:

The CSi5 had a lighter, more reddish tone....the RTi8's had a more maroonish tone...almost looked like a dark ash color.

You're inevitably going to have to deal with a sub that doesn't match perfectly. If it's really important that it match perfectly, I know Axiom will do color matching on their speakers. You could probably send them one of your RTi4's and have them build a sub that matches it.

    Except furniture.

Unless you buy your furniture at Walmart.

I prefer my speakers to blend into the decor of the room...not stand-out like a big black turds in the room.
