TV Speaker Review
I am bored
I'm gonna review the TV speakers in this room
Its a 19 inch stereo tv Magnavox tv.
Looks to have 3 inch full rangers...hmmm
Looks:
Finish: This surpasses all finishes I have come across. The smoothness of the dust on the plastic. The little grill with an overlap of plastic. With the 100% acoustically transparent plastic holes. It is definetely the highest of quality work I have come across in my Audio Adventure. I have been misleaded. Plastic is DEFINETLY the new vintage! haha! Wilson Audio needs to take notes.
Build Quality: VERY good build quality, you pick it up and the thing just pops. It shows that the joint reconnect theirselfs and therefor means it is excellant. Weighs a good hefty 20 pounds. It is definetely meant to do some business.
Sound:
Highs: This speaker has gotta have the cleanest and sparkling highs I have heard to date. Very crisp with a surreal sense of vibrancy. I can't believe how bad these 3 inch full rangers smash my Polk's on the top end. Polk should really read this and take some pointers. With its 11khz roll off, it is completely non harsh and non life like. It is perfect for the 90 year old!
Mids: Completely *not* alive, very dull. Yet at the same time smashes the Wilson Audio set of 6.5". Vocals just seem to come to life in its 1 foot soundstage. The guitars sound so bose like with a hint of infinity, it totally rules my speakers. All meshed together like a teletubie on top of barney. The drums sorda are faded out in a totally cool way. With a terrible sound it rules most speakers costing thousands more. I am totally envious of my Step Bro's TV. Infact, I must switch my RT25i woofers for these Fullrangers. They completely kill Polk in the mids man.
Bass: SVS who? SVS don't have anything on these fullrangers! Its 0db bass and 40hz roll off exstention can kick SVS's arse man. SVS don't have anything on this speaker!
Overall: I have been misleaded this entire time, I hate you all, you lead me down the path of an expensive system and I turn on my Step Bro's tv and IM FLOORED! Jaw dropped, drooling for more Full Range sound!
Can someone loan me a friggin stereo or something? I'm tired of listening to this POS.

- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Ok another "novelty" review....
Panasonic Mini System
Looks: The cabinet and the component are both mixes of low density fiberboard and plastic. The display has a pleasing amber glow, but it is contraseted by the tacky sticker that proudly boasts "90 WATTS (1khz, 10% THD)"
Build: The Tweeters are two inch paper cones. The CD changer makes a God-aweful noise when it changes discs, and headphones are powered by a mini-jack. 'Nuff said.
Mids: The most important part of music. The mids are absolutely chained to the cabinets. It sounds like the performers are being choked to death. The lower midrange especially is severely attenuated compared to the rest of the spectrum.
Bass: Naturally, the bass rolls off at a hefty  90hz, But Panasonic's "SUPER SOUND EQ" is the audio equivelent of a slavedriver, forcing those poor 5" cones to work waaay harder than they really want to, down to perhaps 50 or 60hz. There is nothing refined about the bass. Bass notes are slow to start and hang on much longer than they should.
Highs: The first thing I noticed about the highs was how prominent they are. After a closer inspection, I realized that the 2" paper cones roll off much too early. The cymbals in Styx's "Lady" were audible enough, but the harmonics that really make them shimmer were MIA. Sibilance was prominent in all recordings, most likely thanks to the "SUPER SOUND EQ"
Soundstaging and Soundscaping: The proud owner of this sytem set up the speakers a broad 1 foot apart. It's like a return to the days of mono. Instruments and voices are crammed together in just a few inches. Ambient information, instead of soaring around the room, was stuck up there with the rest of the noise (dare I call it music?)
Conclusion: The bass was boomy and forced, it sounded like the woofers were constipated. The mids were nowhere to be found, and the highs sparkled while having no real extension. I'm still recovering from the ear fatigue. -
Here is one that will blow you away!
Appearence: Classic emergency style radio look. White, very basic with a rotary dial for tuning and a retractable...DIRECTIONAL.... antenna.
Build: Very strong, probably some prototype thermosplastic that has yet undiscovered properties. I could play basketball with it.
Highs: Next question, unless you call CB style squelch a "High"
Mids: The man telling you that you will die within the first 5 minutes of exposure to high levels of radiation.....is LOUD and CLEAR. Very authoritative and commanding. This radio makes you want to sit down and really pay attention.
Lows: This baby pumps out some serious subsonic bass, that is so low and infrasonic, I cannot hear it. I know its there......I just know it.
Overall: I think that one could set up a serious HT system for alert broadcasting with 7 of these wired in parallel, with an SVS 20-39PCi subwoofer for fill-in bass support.
If you don't understand that you need to cover your windows with plastic immediately, then you should just shoot yourself.
Please feel free to email with anyquestions about tweaks and setup tips for this unit.
I have allready upgraded to a pair of Sennheiser 590's, with Blue Lapis cord, for private emergency band listening, and it is damn near 3D!CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
R(adio)S(hack), and Dor! FRIGGIN HILARIOUS MAN!!!!!!!ROFL!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Vr3 - Glad you enjoyed that ;P
Outkast - Is that the black and silver one? Woofer on the side? I think we "borrowed" that from Best Buy for a party once, sounded pretty good for its size. I think Panasonic makes some of the cooler mini-systems in the <$200 range.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers?
