New guy with SDA2B mod questions

Hi all. A while back I picked up a pair of these at a garage sale for $50. they had a frozen woofer, and were missing the interconnect cable. Thanks to this forum I was able to bring them up to speed with a polk replacement, and a DIY interconnect. Pretty nice speaks for $110.
I then recapped with a combo of Solens for the lows, and a clairity cap PX for the HF,and used a Mundorf resistor. Much better, and that brings up my question. I'd like to go the RDO 198 TL route, but clairity caps only offers a 5.6 in the px range, and I'd like to stay in that range.
Close enough,or use a .2 clairity SA cap with it? Also I didn't pull the 750 mica,when I do,do I use a jumper or just pull it?
Thanks for any info, and for all the info I've culled from this forum.
John

Hi John,
Welcome to CP. I wonder if Clarity caps can be custom valued?
As you probably read, mAny of us buy Sonicaps from Sonic Craft and they custom value for about a buck fifty a cap. Clarity caps are sweet and it would be great if you could get one spot-on 5.8uf.
I think percentagewise 5.6uf is well within the parameters to replace a 5.8uf, but 5.8 is what Polk found to be ideal. I don't think it would be a good idea to bypass it with a .2uf. Even though capacitance is additive, the .2 becomes the path of least resistance and processes a disproportionate amount of the signal so my guess is the sound quality through a 5.6 + .2 would be different that from a proper 5.8 or a substituted 5.6 alone.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

At 5% tolerance the 5.6 px will be fine, definitely don't add the .2. It will just act as a bypass cap and you don't want that. Enjoy, and welcome to CP!"The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage." Thucydides

There is a lot of healthy interest in other brand caps.
I think the way to put it is that Sonicaps give you 95-97% of what is possible on a beer budget, but there are some champagne caps out there that approach 99.9%
Clarity Caps (MR MKP) are generally considered to be a step up from Sonicaps, albeit at a slightly higher cost.
Consider the Mundorf Supreme Silver Gold Oils if you really want to go there.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S
