Free PSW111 problems

Problems again:)
OK..I got 2 free PSW111's because of the speakers I bought. One doesn't work...bass comes though intermittently when you tap the volume button. I sent an email to Gil again so I will wait on that one.
My question is the other sub..it works but once I calibrate my VSX-32 it doesn't work. I listened while it went through the calibration setup but once it got to the bass it was such a quiet wimpy tone it didn't recognize it and set all my speakers to large and locked the bass out. I had to reset the system to get the bass back. Crossover is set at 80..changing it didn't fix anything. Is this bass just too small for this setup. I am not really into big bass and the RTi fill most of the gap...I was hoping that this FREE addition would be useful
RTI A9 front
CSI A6 center
FXI A6 surrounds

sub is set as such
Volume...about 3/4 full
low pass LFE
phase 180
power(on) always
Line in R LFE/in

always learning guys.....please be gentle:)

I don't believe that the PSW111 is going to knock you out of your shoes. I'd calibrate without the subwoofer, as in NO and just add it afterwards, choose YES and tune it as you see fit. It's not a DSW Pro so the impact is going to be lower than expected given your setup.

You have enough bass with those tower loudspeakers but the PSW111 is not the matching subwoofer for that system.

    thanks dorokusai

I guess I kind of figured that but since I was just looking for some added bass fill I wasn't sure why Pioneers MCAA was ignoring it...or wasn't hearing it.
Hopefully Polk can address the damaged (free) polk and I can at least sell them to someone that can get some benefit from them.

I talked with Gil again today..then I talked with someone in tech that said that it sounds like a failed volume switch. They have a new sub being sent out today and then I will send the failed one back to them.

I tried everything to get my receiver to add the bass to the calibration but it is just too low to be recognized...it puts all my speakers to large and by-passes....sooo...I changed them back to small..it add my bass back( just adds a bit of bottom to everything) and still keeps the changes within everything else...works for now. Once I get some more cash or sell my 2 PSW111's then I will get a better bass that more compliments the rest of the setup..onward upward!!

I love that PSW111 subwoofer. It's the BEST subwoofer for a computer setup....perfect if there is such an animal.

That sounds like something else is wrong. I got the PSW111 for free too when I bought my RTi A3's last christmas. It wont be cracking the plaster on the walls but it should still be a lot more active that what you described. I'm still impressed at the output of such a small low priced sub.

My Onkyo calibrated mine to -5db with the sub volume knob at exactly 12 o'clock.

I hooked mine up from the receiver to the 111, then out to the LR front speakers, set the receiver to NO in the set up. That is one setup that Polk has in it's manual... It sounds great to me. You get all the bass you paid for, so it said in the instructions.... Works for me!!!

not sure what to say..I got two of these subs with my purchase..one was obviously DOA. The other works but is very weak. My VSX-32 only gives one way to hook the sub up ..direct with a single RCA cable. I have to have it about 3/4 full on to hear a noticeable bass line. Before I calibrated it the bass line was much stronger but not in a controlled fashion..just booming away.
I have it to my left side about 5 feet away pointing straight at me.
My room in BIG( old converted church) about 22 feet high ceiling 40X30 not including the open concept bedrooms above at both ends...MuchO air to move! about 40,000 cubic feet of open concept air,
If anyone knows the VSX-32 well since I am very new to it and may have some adjustment ideas I am all ears.
With some overriding of MCAA I do have my sub back and audible but nothing to write home about:)

Well with a room that size your going to need a really large sub (or 2 large subs) to get that high impact bass. But in the meantime you might want to try to calibrate your system manually with a spl reader for the sub level or just do it by ear. Sometimes those auto calibrations do some weird things, especially with the sub adjustments.

When they replace the dead sub see how that one works... Maybe there was two different problems with both subs. Placing one in a front corner and the other one in the back corner or close to the listening position will help too. Two PSW111 should at least give you a decent kick to hold you over for awhile if you can get it working right.

    Thanks

I was thinking that as well...2 problems...so I will try again once I get the replacement. My ARV only has one sub port...would you use a Y splitter for 2? does that work as a norm for setups such as mine?
    Thanks everyone!

I also had two 111s and used them in my setup for several months before replacing. Our speaker package is similar except I have the A7s instead of the 9s.

I was not unhappy with the 111s. They were reasonably fast for music and with the two set forward and far apart in our room they produced decent bass/sound effects for movies.

Today, I have one of the two set up in our bedroom system (Monitors 40s, 30s and a CS1). It seems to work very well. I likely won't hookup the second one.

I replaced the two 111s in the main system with a much higher performing sub and there is a substantial difference. You'll hear the same - especially in your large-volume area, when you make the change.

The replacement arrived today..no change but it is a large room so my expectations where too much for this sub and this room...not a big deal the A9s do a fine job on their own!
Considering this room does anyone have any suggestions for a sub around the 650$ range or is that even possible:)
