A guy literaly down the street from me has a pair of Monitor 5s for sale. He is asking $125. They look good. Are these worth it? I know nothing of them.
Thanks

Monitor 5s are a nice bookshelf, especially if they have the Peerless tweeter. But even with that, and in mint condition. 125 is a little high.

I wouldn't go above 80 myself. And some have gotten 5s for a lot less?

Need more info, but a mint pair usually brings about $75-80. I have a pair in my office rig with RD0 tweeters and full x-over mods and they are simply stunning. I will never get rid of them.

Always remember it's better to pay a little more since they are local and you don't have to pay for shipping or risk shipping damage. That's worth $20-25 extra right there. Offer $90.

I just read the reviews of it in the "vintage" products section. Sounds like a winner to me! Thanks guys. I am going to see if I can get them tomorrow. I will hit him at $80 and see what he comes back with.
These seem to be all original with just very minor scratches.
    Thanks again!

There were about 4 models (generations) w/ 4 different tweeters. Two of the 4 models had fuses. You need to figure out what model you are looking at. A photo front and back would help alot (with the grills off).

From the sound of mine, I just offered them for sale for 100.00.

Almost mint and beautiful sounding. A friend almost bought them but we agreed he needed more and so he ended up with a spare set of RT55I's I have. But for 180.00. Man it's hard to sell any of my POLKs. It's like selling off a pet.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I'm having trouble posting the link to the photos of the speakers but I can describe them.
They are of a dark walnut color. Drivers seem to be some "poly" material. Tweeter is that usual square looking housing with a silver driver. No back pics. Owner says "mid 80s" purchase. Series II??

Probably not series II as those were 90's. Describe the tweeter more. Is the bezel black or silver? Is the dome black or sort of a milky color? Does it have fuses?

The bezel or housing on the tweeter is black. The tweeter driver appeares to be silver. He did not post pic of the back unfortunately. So no idea on the fuses. I have emailed the guy but, I have not had a response yet. I wish I had more info. I hope they are not sold as I see he has had them listed since Thanksgiving!

Those use the sl2000 tweeter and are somewhere in the middle of the product lifespan. Some early 5B's with the sl2000 tweeter had a tweeter fuse while later production is the same but they have a polyswitch in the xover rather than a fuse.

If they are in nice shape they are in the $70-90 range considering I'd always pay a bit of a premium for local pick-up and inspection, etc.
