FXi50 Veneer Repair

After about 3 years of trying to find a pair of black FXi 50's in good shape on eBay to match my RTi100's, RTi 38's and CSi30, I finally manage to pick up a pair that looked beautiful... until I actually got them and noticed the veneers on the bottom of the speakers have been damaged pretty badly. The rubber feet that came with the speakers had been attached to the bottom... then peeled off, peeling of what appears to be the clear coat. They were then reattached with super glue and once again removed leaving lovely little circles of hardened glue on the bottoms. The damage is shown in the attached image or here: http://i51.tinypic.com/a3jioo.jpg
My first thought was to scrape off the glue and lightly sand the veneer on the bottom to remove the clear coat and then reapply. Not knowing how thick the veneer is though, I don't want to accidentally sand the whole thing off.
My other thought would be to completely remove the veneer on the bottom and purchase some wood veneer online. Does anyone know the type of wood used on this line of speakers and how thick the original veneer is? The blackened ash veneer here looked promising: http://oakwoodveneer.com/veneer/ash.html
Would either of these options work? Do I have any additional options? If I took either route, any recommendations on finishing them to match the rest of the cabinets?

I assume since you're worried about the appearance of the bottoms that you're wall mounting. I'd try to remove the adhesive with something like Goo Gone or Goof Off and try to touch them up with a black sharpie. Worked great on my LSfx's. Good luck and welcome to CP!!
