    yup i got em...

after thinking about it even more -- i think the PG titanium sub - the single 4 ohm coil 10"... with the hifonics 400w amp would be great...

if u can swing a higher power amp... that'd be good... if not, no biggie..

i think www.thezeb.com has RF Punch 500S's for like 189 bucks... or the 700S is like 220.

even tho that 700S would be like 70 bucks more than the hifonics amp -- the sub is 120 dollars less than the other one -- u're still makin out 50 bucks better than before...

but the 400w HIF would still be good on the PG titanium sub.

I am at my grandma's so I was not able to respond to your email. But I had a quick question.

First off I was looking for a 12" sub. Saw the Momo 10" and that did get my attention.

You mentioned the PG. I also saw the PG which is this model. http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/PHORTI12D would I still get the same results with the hifonics amp? I notice the specks were basically the same.

well that's the problem.. specs are identical... but coils aren't

its not a single 4 ohm coil (or a dual 2.... two 2 ohm coils in series = 4 ohms).... its a dual 4... that means u would need an amp that did its power at 2 ohms (two 4 ohm coils in parallel = 2 ohms, series is 8 -- and no amp is gonna do power at 8 ohms... so ud' have to hunt for 2).

that would relegate you to the realm of mono amps... so u'd be lookin for a 400 - 500 x 1 at 2 ohm mono class D...

the only one i can find (for under 250 bucks) is the Profile CA600M which does 420 x 1 at 2 ohms -- costs $149

or the Profile CL600M which does 450 x 1 at 2 ohms and costs $169.

so if you went with either one of those... and the PG dual 4 ohm coils 12" sub for 90 bucks -- you're up to like 239 to 259 bucks -- which is still cheaper than the 200 + 150 = 350 for the hifonics and the IDQ.

but what u gotta look at is where we're goin here...

the purpose for the hifonics amp and IDQ sub was amazing sound quality -- precise amp with a very artisitic sub...

the PG Titanium is also a very good SQ sub and while its gonna be louder, its not as clean as the IDQ.

the Profile amp is a little stronger and it'll work with the PG sub, but its not of the overall quality of the Hifonics...

as long as you're ok "bumping down a knotch" sound quality wise (not a ton, just a knotch)... you can save some cash by goin with the PG and the Profile.

the sub calls for a 1.1 cube box.. so if you go with it, make sure you get the R/T brand box that states its "medium" for a 12" sub -- that should be 1.2 i think - close enough.

the 8 gauge wiring kit will still be fine.

... in the email i sent you i basically said that if you can find an Alpine Type R SWR-1221D / NEW STYLE Momo MM104 then those would work well too for about 50 or 60 bucks cheaper than the IDQ is... but that i do not reccomend you go buy an old style momo because there were some problems with them.

Yeah and I am also not going to "bump" down on quality also.

I am sold on the Hifonics amp, I found some reviews, and thats what I want, so basically I need to look for a sub that will match it. Some "sweet" talking may be in order.:D

So the MM104, Alpine Type R SWR-1221D, or hopefully (crosses fingers) the IDQ.

Any other subs to recommend.....to keep my options open. the MM124 possibly or no?

well the mm124 would be apossibility if you went with the Hifonics 600 watt bridgeable amp -- then you'd have enough juice for it... but that's some more cash.

the 400 is only gonna be enough for the 10" momo.

    but the 400 will push the alpine 10 / 12 ... polk momo 10 ... idq ... or even the PG 10".

glad to hear you're sold on the hifonics -- that's good stuff dude... i like how every once in a while the price goes down so low that its like they're givin the **** away.

    O.K.

After sleeping on it for the night I think I am going to go with the PG Titanium. http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/PHORTI10

Only problem is I cannot find the right enclosure. Can you point me in the right direction please.

Do I still use http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/LITPK8IC fo my wiring with this sub?

the wiring kit is fine -- its actually dependant on the amp not the sub -- the kit posted there is good up to about *thinking* eehhhh 500- 550-ish watts of output... over that it would be strongly advised to go with 4 gauge... but the Hifonics at 400 (prolly do a little more, maybe 425 - they're good amps) is still within that 8 gauge range.

far as the box goes... normally, for a sub that says 0.55, and the only boxes u can find are 0.65, i'd say "throw two one foot long two by fours in there, glue em down and you're good" --- but this is not a small sub... the basket is very large, the magnet is very large.... its a meaty subwoofer.... as such, i would assume its internal displacement is also larger than normal... so i think u can just put it in a 0.65 box and call it a day. those "box size" ratings are for the sub usually without displacement... but most "normal" subs are small and have low dispalcements so u can assume 1 cubic foot recommended size to be right on, cuz the tiny basket of the sub aint gonna matter any... but this one's a little bigger and u probably will see it with a displacement of 0.1 or right around there... thus 0.55 + 0.1 = 0.65...

and even if its not that much, the 0.65 wont hurt it... you're gonna run 100 watts under the rms rating of the sub, as such you can allow it in a tiny bit bigger box because it'll extend down on the low low low notes slightly better than in the tighter box. one of the ways to compensate for slightly underpowring a sub is to slightly increase its box size by like 10% or so and stuffing it...

so just dont stuff the box and you'll be fine. (no polyfill... none.... zero... zilch... zip... dont even think about it... u see polyfill and u walk the other way...lol).

the 0.65 cube boxes are as follows...
    http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/QLCQLH6510SE
    and
    http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/RTE31110

i'm no big fan of q logic, and while i'm not RT's number one fan either, RT doesnt' have that god aweful stupid plastic ring underneath the mounting hole -- its been known to cause a bad rattle and air leak problem... besides that, the RT is cheaper($39 bucks versus like 50 or 60)... long as you dont beat on it with a sledge hammer it should be fine.

i'm off to class though -- yes class on saturday -- got a final on wednesday and the TA's having a review session... ugh... 3 hours of mindless babble... i wish i had a laptop with a satellite modem so i could just sit online the whole time... then again what would i do aonline besides come in here...lol.

*smacks self on head* -- duh-- stupid me... i forgot to ask you...

you asked about the wiring kit and i assumed you had an aftermarket headunit with an RCA output jack on back...

    do you?

if you dont, you can either get one (which u'd probably want anyway).

or you can instead get the same wirign kit only without the yellow patch RCA cables (5 or 6 bucks less than the one with the cables)... and then u'll have to buy a Line Out Converter for about 20 bucks in order to make your factory headunit "talk" to your amp... the LOC would patch into your rear speaker wires and then jump over to the amp.

hopefully u have RCA outs, cuz those LOC's are "blah"... if u need one tho... gimme a day to look and try and find one that might be a little better than the usual.

    PBD,

I did not see your last post sorry for the lack of response. I have the KENWOOD KDC-MP522 Head unit. It has two pre-amp outputs I believe. So from what I am reading I assume that I can use the wiring kit that you recommended.

I am going to put the order in tomorrow. But i noticed one other thing. (Want to cover all my bases) When I put the link down for the 12"PG Sub I had put in the dual 4ohm sub. Sounddomain and PG carry a single 12" 4ohm sub. Now from my past readings I would think the single coil would still work for the HFonics amp. Am I correct in thinking this? http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/PHORTI12

Which I would then get the http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/RTE31112 enclosure. Or Would MDF enclosure be better fo this type of sub?

If I am wrong in all of this i am just going to give you the cash and have you buy it for me....aarrgghhh!;)

that box is made of particle board...MDF is about 500 million times stronger
my friend had some pioneers in a particle board enclosure
his cousin have him the box for free...he was saving to get a custom box made...blew the box to crap
2 chambers...400 watts in each chamber
completely blew the box to crap
    go with MDF
